Huge cache of explosives recovered from poll bound Jharkhand

Latehar, Nov 11 (ANI): Huge cache of explosives was recovered in poll bound red corridor area of Jharkhand in a joint anti-Maoist operation by commandos of paramilitary and special police unit. The explosives were recovered by elite CoBRA commando troops of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jharkhand ‘Jaguars’ police unit in Latehar district of Jharkhand in a joint exercise. The items recovered in this operation include 1745 detonators, 154 pressure cookers, cortex wires, 4 quintals of urea, gunpowder, three gas cylinder based Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) of 50 kg each and other loose explosives. Superintendent of Police (SP), Latehar, Michael Raj S said that the operation was launched on a tip off intelligence in the Maoist infested area. Woman paraded naked in Rajasthan, 30 accused arrested

Rajsamand, Nov 11 (ANI): Police arrested 30 accused for allegedly parading a woman half naked in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, said a senior officer. The 40-year-old woman was allegedly stripped and paraded on a donkey across a tribal village by village council members who were accusing her of being involved in a murder case at Thurabad village in Rajsamand district. Police registered the case, following the complaint filed by the woman’s husband, Uday Singh. Police said that the woman was humiliated by the village council members for being involved in an alleged murder. District collector Verma and other officials visited the village after the incident. Bangladesh war crime accused Mohammad Kamaruzzaman's family urge SC to review its verdict

Dhaka, Nov 11 (ANI): Family members of the Islamist leader, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, convicted for war crimes, urged Bangladesh Supreme Court to review its verdict of upholding his death penalty. In May last year, a special war crimes tribunal found Kamaruzzaman, an assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, guilty of genocide and torture of unarmed civilians during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. The tribunal sentenced him to death. Kamaruzzaman's son, Hasan Iqbal pleaded his father's innocence and requested the court to reconsider the verdict. The tribunals have delivered death sentences for two Jamaat leaders, including its party chief and former minister, Motiur Rahman Nizami, late October this year. Nov 11, 2014

Explosion near NIA Office in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 11 (ANI): A small explosion occurred near the office of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Kolkata, police and interior office officials said. An officer at the police control room in Kolkata said the cause of the blast at the NIA office had not yet been established. Interior ministry official said preliminary information was that nobody had been injured. The NIA is currently investigating an earlier explosion in Burdwan, near Kolkata in October, that the agency believes was a botched plot by Bangladeshi Islamist militants to kill Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. A Kolkata court on Sunday gave the NIA custody of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) commander Sajid, a Bangladeshi national who West Bengal police arrested on Saturday in connection with the blast. Justifying as to why girls were not allowed library membership, the VC said, “the issue is not of discipline, but of space. Our library is packed". PM Modi to visit Australia this week for G-20 summit

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Australia from November 16-18 for G-20 summit later this week, said foreign ministry official. India wants to keep a so-called 'peace clause' that protects its huge state food purchases until the World Trade Organization can strike a definitive deal on stockpiling. As originally envisaged in Bali, the clause would expire in four years. India’s foreign ministry official Anil Wadhwa said Modi`s visit to Australia would improve and strengthen relations between the two countries. India would also discuss contours of an agreement between US, Japan, India and Australia to check Chinese influence in the region. The Prime Minister will hold delegation-level talks with his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott, and will address the Parliament in Canberra. He will have political-business community meetings in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The Prime Minister will also participate in the G-20 Summit in Australia, following which he shall travel to Fiji after a gap of 33 years. New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka obtained a copy of the judgment that gave death sentence to five fishermen, said foreign ministry spokesperson in New Delhi. The court has convicted five Indian fishermen on the charge of drug trafficking. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the embassy had approached best legal brains in Sri Lanka to appeal against the verdict. However, Akbaruddin refused to comment on the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s statement over the transfer of five fishermen to an Indian jail under a bilateral agreement.
