Twelve hardcore Maoists surrender in Odisha

Koraput, June 09 (ANI): Twelve rebels of a hardcore Maoist organisation, Communist Party of India (Maoist), surrendered before police in Koraput district of Odisha. The police said their case was being recommended for rehabilitation under the surrender policy of Odisha government. All the surrendered Maoists hailed from Narayanpatna area, which has been a Maoist stronghold. Police, meanwhile, have appealed all Maoists and their associates to shun violence or face stern action in the coming days. Maoists say they are fighting for the rights of poor farmers and landless labourers. Thousands have been killed in the insurgency since the late 1960s. Jun 9, 2014

Virbhadra Singh orders probe after students go missing

Shimla/ New Delhi/ Hyderabad, June 09 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh CM, Virbhadra Singh, on Monday ordered probe against the authorities for releasing water from a dam without issuing a warning which swept away 24 students. The engineering students of a private college, VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology of Hyderabad went missing on Sunday when they were standing on the bank of Beas river near Thalot on Manali-Kiratpur Highway to click photographs. The water of the river suddenly increased following its release from the reservoir of 126 MW Larji hydropower project. Tribal refugees in Tripura repatriated to Bangladesh

Tripura, June 09 (ANI): Authorities in Tripura sent back 90 Bangladeshi tribals who entered India illegally, seeking refuge, after ethnic clashes with non-tribal Muslims in their homeland last week. The repatriation took place through Gandacherra in Dhalai district of Tripura in presence of Indian and Bangladeshi officials and border guards of both the nations. The tribal people mainly consisting of Buddhists and Hindus had fled their homeland and entered into Indian territory after some "miscreants" allegedly attacked their homes in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), a tribal- dominated area in southeast Bangladesh that borders India and Myanmar. Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gandacherra, Bhaskar Das Gupta, said that the Bangladeshi nationals came to Tripura after facing ethnic violence back home. Jun 9, 2014
