Members of Transgender Community pledge to donate their eyes after death

Pune, June 13 (ANI): More than 100 members of transgender community in Pune city of Maharashtra set up an example for others to follow as they pledged to donate their eyes after their death. A Pune-based non-governmental organisation, Late Shankarrao Bhoi Smruti Pratishthan, has been able to encourage more than 15000 people to fill up eye donation forms in the last 15 years. A member of the transgender community, Panna Gabrel, who was present at the donation drive, said like everyone else they also have the right to contribute to this nation. The president of Bhoi foundation, Milind Bhoi, was also present at the drive. He said more than 700,000 people are visually-impaired in India and in need of an eye transplant. Jun 13, 2014

2014 FIFA World Cup: Brazil celebrates the host nation's victory over Croatia

Brazil, June 13 (ANI): Celebrations broke out in Rio as the World Cup's host nation, Brazil won their opening game. Thousands of fans dressed in Brazil's canary yellow, green and blue colours, together with a number of overseas visitors, cheered throughout Brazil's victory over Croatia. Rio's "FIFA Fan Fest", set up on the city's famous Copacabana Beach briefly fell silent when Croatia took an early lead, but fireworks, horns and drumbeats surfaced as Brazil rallied for a 3-1 win. Himachal Pradesh tragedy survivors blame laxity of safety measures as cause of deaths

Mandi/ Hyderabad, June 13 (ANI): Survivors of the Himachal Pradesh river tragedy which swept away 24 students blamed negligence of safety measures at the site Beas River as the cause of deaths. The survivors said besides the college authorities, state tourism department were also responsible for lack of caution signs at the site. Meanwhile, two more bodies were recovered on Thursday and were flown to their home town. Social activists protest against raising Narmada Dam height by 17 meters

Navagam/ Mumbai/ New Delhi, June 13 (ANI): After authorities announced its approval to raise height of controversial Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat, activists denounced the decision and alleged the authorities surpassed any approval from ministries concerned. After almost eight years the country's most controversial dam project, Sardar Sarovar Dam, got its final approval to raise its height by 17 meters after the current 122 meters, so that water woes from different parts of the state come to an end. jGas leak in Bhilai steel plant kills at least six, leaves over 40 injured

Bhilai, June 13 (ANI): At least six people including two deputy general managers, were killed and over 40 reportedly injured due to a leakage in a methane gas pipeline at a water pump house in the Bhilai steel plant (BSP) in Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, Steel Minister Narendra Singh Tomar expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and ordered a high-level probe. Coolers, wet jute bags help zoo animals cope with intense heat

Patna/ Vadodara, June 13 (ANI): In wake of intense heat, zoo authorities across India made special arrangements for the animals and birds and installed coolers to help them cope with scorching heat. In an effort to provide cool shelters to birds, jute bags have been placed on cages on which water is sprayed periodically, so that the enclosures remain cool. A visitor to Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park in Patna city of Bihar, Mohammed Mustaq, said special steps have been taken by the zoo authorities to provide them with summer comfort.
