Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj holds bilateral talks with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi

New Delhi, June 8 (ANI): External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday met her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. The Chinese foreign minister is in India to establish political contacts with the new Indian government in order to boost the bilateral ties between the two countries. Wang Yi, who arrived in Delhi as a Special Envoy of President Xi Jingping, is also expected to call on President Pranab Mukherjee and meet the new National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. He will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit. Jun 8, 2014

Devotees throng banks of Ganga to celebrate Ganga Dussehra

Varanasi/ Allahabad/ Haridwar, June 08 (ANI): Thousands of devotees converged at banks of holy river Ganges to offer prayers to mark Hindu festival, ‘Ganga Dussehra’, which commemorates birth of the river on earth. Devout Hindus in Varanasi took a holy dip in River Ganges and prayed for their ancestors. Priests performed traditional Hindu rituals and chanted hymns on the banks of the river. Women and girls offered prayers for the well being of their families. Devotees assembled on banks from the crack of the dawn to take a holy dip and sought the blessings of the Hindu goddess Ganga to get rid of their sins. Prithivraj Chavan flags off Mumbai Metro

Mumbai, June 8 (ANI): Maharashtra CM Prithivraj Chavan on Sunday inaugurated the much-awaited Mumbai Metro that promises to cater to lakhs of commuters per day on the 11-km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route. Reliance Industries head Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani were amongst the early riders. Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) is a joint venture between Reliance Infrastructure, French firm Veolia Transport and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). While Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Infra, which is the execution agency, owns a 69 per cent stake in the project, the state-run MMRDA and Veolia hold 26 per cent and 5 per cent stake respectively. Unidentified assailants gun down BJP leader in Greater Noida

Chinese foreign minister arrives in New Delhi to boost bilateral ties

New Delhi, June 8 (ANI): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to meet his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj in a bid to bolster bilateral ties between the two Asian giants. Wang, the special envoy of the Chinese president, will hold talks with Swaraj on Sunday. He will meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Alert personnel recover live bombs and timers in Ranchi

Ranchi, June 8 (ANI): A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) recovered 18 live bombs and timers from Sithio village in Ranchi. This is the same village from where terrorists were arrested in connection with the Patna blast. Congress slams AAP over internal conflicts; AAP says efforts are on to resolve differences

New Delhi, June 8 (ANI): The Congress party questioned the stability of Aam Aadmi Party as rumours of a rift within the latter gained momentum, with members meeting in New Delhi to discuss the poll debacle, the deep differences among its senior members and the spate of resignations by prominent leaders tainting its reputation. The three-day Aam Aadmi Party national executive meet was chaired by party chief, Arvind Kejriwal, amid reports of infighting and a rift between party leaders, Manish Sisodia and Yogendra Yadav. Sisodia accused Yadav of disintegrating the party and targeting Kejriwal while Yadav claimed that the party was falling prey to a personality cult. Taking a jibe at this infighting, Congress leader, Arvinder Singh Lovely, said that AAP is a party of power hungry people with vested interests. Further, Congress General Secretary, Shakeel Ahmad, said that AAP is trapped in its own game.
