Glasgow, July 24 (ANI): The colourful event of Commonwealth Games 2014 kicked off in Glasgow after some enthralling dance and singing performances at the Celtic Park and a minute's silence for the victims of the Malaysian Airlines crash. Queen Elizabeth II travelled by train to Glasgow and declared the games open at the end of the evening's ceremony. Around 6,000 athletes gathered for the opening of the Commonwealth Games. The Games, open to athletes from the 53 Commonwealth of Nations, feature 22 sports. With nations including Jamaica, Kenya, Australia, England, Canada and South Africa participating, there are a significant numbers of Olympic medalists taking part. Jul 24, 2014

Police kill Maoist in encounter; recover arms in Jharkhand

Khunti, July 24 (ANI): Police killed one Maoist in an encounter and also recovered a huge cache of arms in red corridor of Khunti district in Jharkhand. On a tip off, police launched a joint operation along with paramilitary, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in an area where 20 to 25 rebels were estimated to be hiding. During the search operations, Maoists started firing at the police and during the encounter one Maoist was shot dead. Authorities in Siliguri take preventive measures to tackle Japanese encephalitis

Siliguri /Vadodara, July 24 (ANI): Health department in West Bengal took preventive measures to tackle Japanese encephalitis as 83 cases of the disease have been detected in the region. An outbreak of encephalitis syndrome is playing havoc near Siliguri district of the state. Following the increase of deaths, the district administration conducted a meeting with several departments to tackle the situation. Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) is spreading bleaching powders, conducting fogging at the piggeries and holding awareness campaigns. Bhopal, July 24 (ANI): Police seized illegal pistols from smugglers in Bhopal and detained four persons in the case.Police personnel were conducting a regular check at a post when they caught a person with pistols. Police recovered nine local pistols and three other pistols from the arrested men.
