Bihar suspends forceful evacuation as flood threat recedes

Patna/ Purnia, Aug 05 (ANI): Bihar has suspended the forceful evacuation of people from four districts as threats of impending floods from neighbouring Nepal receded. More than 400,000 people in the state faced the risk of flooding after a landslide in neighbouring Nepal created a mud dam blocking the Sunkoshi River, which runs into Bihar as the river Kosi. Thousands have been evacuated to safer places till now. Nepal has decided not blast the dam till Saturday and release regulated water through two holes created in the dam across densely populated Bihar. Meanwhile, Indian government deployed C-17 Globemaster plane to airlift a medical team and equipments to set up a make-shift hospital in Punia district to meet any requirement. Aug 5, 2014

New Delhi, Aug 05 (ANI): Even as the government agreed not to test candidates for English skills in the civil services preliminary examination scheduled for August 24, protesting civil-service aspirants fumed and vowed to continue their almost month-long stir to demand scrapping of the civil services aptitude test (CSAT). The Arvind Verma committee report submitted to the government has recommended that no change should be made in the CSAT as it is a scientifically formed exam and shouldn't be tinkered with. Hyderabad HC issues notice to Mallika Sherawat, govt over 'obscene' poster

Hyderabad, Aug 4 (ANI): The Hyderabad High Court on Monday issued notices to Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat and the government over a poster of the actress' upcoming film 'Dirty Politics' that shows her draped in the three colours of the national flag. The court has also asked them to reply to the notice in four weeks. Ms Sherawat, in the poster, is sitting on top of a car with a red beacon light, wearing the Indian tricolor. The public interest litigation alleges that this is "obscene use of the Indian Tricolour" and also that "the State Emblem of India has been used for cheap publicity."
