Police kill Maoist in encounter; recover arms in Jharkhand

Khunti, July 24 (ANI): Police killed one Maoist in an encounter and also recovered a huge cache of arms in red corridor of Khunti district in Jharkhand. On a tip off, police launched a joint operation along with paramilitary, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in an area where 20 to 25 rebels were estimated to be hiding. During the search operations, Maoists started firing at the police and during the encounter one Maoist was shot dead. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s. Jul 24, 2014

Netherlanders mourn for MH17 victims

Amsterdam, July 24 (ANI): A day of national mourning took place in the Netherlands, as the first bodies of the crashed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 victims arrived back in the country. As the remains were taken for identification at a military base, memorials and a moment of silence were held to remember those who were killed. When the first bodies arrived, thousands gathered to walk in silence. Through the center of Amsterdam, an entire country displayed its resilience. Authorities in Siliguri take preventive measures to tackle Japanese encephalitis

Siliguri /Vadodara, July 24 (ANI): Health department in West Bengal took preventive measures to tackle Japanese encephalitis as 83 cases of the disease have been detected in the region. An outbreak of encephalitis syndrome is playing havoc near Siliguri district of the state. Following the increase of deaths, the district administration conducted a meeting with several departments to tackle the situation. Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) is spreading bleaching powders, conducting fogging at the piggeries and holding awareness campaigns. Sanitary Inspector from the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Sunil Sarkar, said that they have identified the piggeries, given notice to vacant the places. Meanwhile, Gujarat also witnessed death of four children due to Chandipura virus in last 24 hours. Superintendent at Sir Sayajirao Gaikwad Hospital, Rajiv Deveshwar, said this illness is caused due to Chandipura virus which spreads through sand fly’s bite. Jul 24, 2014

Health ministry signs MoU to increase AIDS awareness

New Delhi, July 24 (ANI): Health minister, Harsh Vardhan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with minister for information and communication, Ravi Shankar Prasad, to enable advanced online services to impart education on HIV/AIDS in the country. Prasad said major steps were taken in this regard to infuse strong education and counseling services through information and technology. He said that as India is sitting at a cusp of big 'IT revolution', this step would help improve health conditions in the country through provision of online education and counseling to patients. Police recover weapons from smugglers in Bhopal

Bhopal, July 24 (ANI): Police seized illegal pistols from smugglers in Bhopal and detained four persons in the case.Police personnel were conducting a regular check at a post when they caught a person with pistols. Police recovered nine local pistols and three other pistols from the arrested men. They also found out the smugglers supplied the weapons in Uttar Pradesh as well.People who had ordered the illegal arms have also been arrested. Search is underway for the others involved. World Bank chief welcomes new BRICS development bank

New Delhi, July 24 (ANI): The World Bank welcomed a $100 billion development bank founded by the BRICS nations and is ready to provide it with technical assistance, the World Bank president said after a meeting with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The BRICS developing nations - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - announced the bank last week, saying it would fund infrastructure projects in developing nations - a reflection of their growing importance in the world economy.
