Chennai, June 29 (ANI): Operations are underway to rescue the trapped people under debris of the collapsed under construction building in Chennai. Manipur's rich cultural heritage showcased on ramp

Manipur, June 29 (ANI): Dressed in traditional Manipuri dress, models sashayed down the ramp in Imphal. The event was organized at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen under the banner of ‘Sagonarakpa Natki Saktam'. Altogether 28 models from Manipur were invited to give the show an ethnic look. The show aimed at highlighting the uniqueness of the region with special focus on traditional tools. During the show, young Manipuri artists enthralled the audience by performing Maibi Jagoi, a traditional Manipuri dance. Farmers in Manipur get training in sericulture to boost silk production

Imphal, June 29 (ANI): To give a boost to quality silk production, a 5-day long Beneficiary Empowerment Training Programme was recently organized by the Research Extension Centre of Central Silk Board at Khuman Lampak in Imphal. The participants were given theoretical training followed by field exposure visits to Changangei and Mantripukhr. Under the programme, eight batches, comprising of 20 participants each will be given training in Ukhrul and Churachandpur districts this year. The organizers aim to enhance the production from 1.5 metric tons to 14 metric tons in silk producing Ukhrul and Churachandpur district of Manipur. Manipur has been the largest producer of Oak-Tasar Silk in the country and second largest silk producing state in the Northeast region. Jun 29, 2014

Hospitals keep fingers crossed struggling to save GAIL blast victims

East Godavari, June 28 (ANI): Hospital staff worked tirelessly round the clock and kept fingers crossed on Saturday to save the lives of the burnt victims of the GAIL gas pipeline blast in Andhra Pradesh. Fourteen people were killed and 20 injured on Friday in a fire that broke out on a stretch of pipeline running through East Godavari district, engulfing buildings and burning victims to death. The Apollo hospital in Kakinada has received eight of the burn victims, out of which five suffer 100 per cent burns and their survival chances are slim. Hospital staff also said that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure that relatives of the victims are updated on the status of their loved ones. Jun 28, 2014

Maoists attack civilian jeep in Latehar, injure four

Latehar, June 28 (ANI): Maoists attacked a civilian jeep carrying a pregnant lady back from the hospital in red corridor Latehar district of Jharkhand on Saturday that left four injured. According to the injured people, the insurgents started firing blindly at the jeep which went on for nearly an hour. The residents of Latehar also explained what they saw during the Maoist attack which took place around 11 at night. Multi-storey building in Chennai collapses, several feared trapped

Chennai, June 28 (ANI): At least 50 people were fear trapped as a multi-storey under construction building at Moulivakkam near Porur collapsed following rain. Mugalivakkam, a suburb of Chennai, is situated 16 km south-west of Chennai on the Guindy-Mount-Poonamallee road. Many construction workers are feared trapped. About 10 fire tenders are at the spot for rescue operations. The National Disaster Management team from Arakkonam were being rushed to the construction site. Further details are awaited.
