Rescue operations in JandK may bridge gap between army and people: SP

New Delhi, Sep 10 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal, on Wednesday said that rescue operations in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir may bridge the gap between army and people. Rising death toll in Kashmir and worst floods in 60 years submerged villages and destroyed crops as the number of dead hit 420 and thousands remained trapped on rooftops. The Indian air force, army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are carrying out extensive rescue operations in the state. Soldiers rescued families using boats or airlifted them from rooftops by helicopter after the river Jhelum burst its banks in Srinagar, but many more remained stranded. Amit Shah chargesheeted for alleged hate speech in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar/Lucknow, Sep 10 (ANI): BJP President Amit Shah has been booked by the Muzaffarnagar Police on Wednesday for his hate speech during the campaigning of the recent Lok Sabha elections. FIRs had been lodged in Bijnor and Shamli, where Shah had reportedly said that it was the time to seek revenge by casting vote for BJP. The two separate FIRs were lodged against the BJP Chief under section 153A of IPC and section 125 of Representation of People's act. BJP leader Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that BJP will reply to the chargesheet according to the law. Bull jumps into swimming pool; surprises children practicing for competition

Mandsaur, Sep 10 (ANI): Children practicing for the annual state level swimming competition in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh received a surprise as a bull suddenly jumped into the pool to join the fun and frolic. Interestingly, instead of being scared, the children were overjoyed to see the bull sharing the pool and swimming with them. According to swimming coach, Vijeta Singh, the children helped the authorities in pulling the bull out of the pool. It took nearly an hour of high drama after the reluctant animal was finally pulled out of the pool, leaving authorities speculating at the source from where the animal entered the premises of the competition. Incessant rains trigger flood like situation in Gujarat

Vadodara, Sep 10 (ANI): Continuous torrential rains in Gujarat wreaked havoc and flooded streets and submerged vehicles in Vadodara city. Alarmed by the flood situation in Kashmir, the Gujarat government sounded high alert and deployed teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for timely action. Reportedly, incessant rains since Monday morning (September 08) lead to overflowing of Sardar Sarovar dam. People residing on the banks of River Dhadhar have been asked to exercise caution as heavy rains were forecast in the next 72 hours. Nearly, 1,000 people have been evacuated as a preventive measure following the huge inflow in river Vishwamitri. High alert has been sounded in the districts of Surat, Bharuch and Narmada. Distressed flood victims cry for help as houses collapse in Kashmir

Rajouri, Sep 10 (ANI): Distressed victims of the flood fury in Rajouri district of Kashmir cried for help on Wednesday as they were rendered homeless and heartless with collapsed houses and damaged crops. People of the valley demanded the government to provide free ration and expedite relief operations. On the Indian side of the heavily militarised Line of Control (LoC) that divides the Himalayan region, the city of Srinagar lies submerged along with more than 2,000 villages. Medical camps in Rajouri have been providing first aid and emergency medicines to flood victims. The Indian Air Force air-dropped more than 550 tonnes of relief material and 80 medical teams have established emergency health services in government schools and state-run health care centres.
