Lone tiger cub nursed by female dog in Indore zoo

Indore, Oct 5 (ANI): A lone tiger cub, which escaped death after her mother accidentally jabbed her teeth into its body, is now being given special care by the zoo authorities in Madhya Pradesh and being fed milk by a female dog after it was separated from the mother. Shivani, a white tigress at the zoo in Indore city, had given birth to four cubs last month after cross breeding with a yellow tiger, first such case in the country. However, three cubs died due to mishandling by the big cat. Meanwhile, Uttam Yadav, doctor at the zoo, said they did not want to send the lone surviving tiger cub to the mother as they feared that it might also be killed. In order to provide milk to the tiger cub, the zoo authorities carried on a small experiment where the tiger cub could be nursed by a female dog. Yadav said the dog named Jimmy now considers the tiger cub as her own child. Oct 5, 2014

Tripura and West Bengal enforce strict norms to control water pollution post Durga Puja

Agartala/ Siliguri, Oct 05 (ANI): State authorities in Tripura and West Bengal have enforced strict pollution norms in reference to idol immersion for Hindu festival Durga Puja, so as to control pollution level in the water bodies. The municipal bodies have asked their staff, with the help of volunteers, to carry out cleaning process soon after the idols are immersed in the river. Hindu festival Durga Puja celebrates the victory of good over evil. The festival culminates with the immersion of the Durga idols into water bodies. Meanwhile, the municipal body in Siliguri city of West Bengal has also made similar arrangements to keep the rivers clean. Wives of suspected militants in Burdwan blast case arrested for enquiry

Burdwan/ New Delhi, Oct 05 (ANI): Two women were arrested and remanded to police custody for two weeks in connection with the explosion at Khagragarh area of Burdwan that left two suspected militants dead. Rajira Bibi is the widow of suspected militant Shakil Ahmed, who was killed in the explosion in a house at Khagragarh on October 2, while Amina Bibi is the wife of Hasan Saheb, who was critically injured in the blast and is under treatment at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. The two suspected militants were killed and another was injured when an explosion occurred in a house inhabited by them on Thursday. According to police officials, large number of watch dials, SIM cards, and other tools required to make improvised explosive devices were found in the house. Owner of the two-storey house, Hasan Chowdhury, who lives in another house across the road, said he had given the first floor to Shakil Ahmed, the deceased, on a monthly rent of Rs 4,700 but he did not know the identity of the two others.
