New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Friday said that special security plans have been worked out for the protection of all religious places in the national capital, especially churches. In wake of the recent attacks on churches in the national capital, a delegation from the Christian community was assured by Home Minister Rajnath Singh that the ruling dispensation at the Centre would never tolerate any discrimination in the name of caste, colour, language or religion. Since December 2014, five churches in the national capital have been attacked. St. Alphonse Church in Vasant Kunj area was the latest one to be vandalised and desecrated by unknown persons on February 2. Feb 6, 2015

Security beefed up in Delhi ahead of assembly polls

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Friday said that security has been tightened by the Delhi Police ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Bassi added that deployment at booth level will start from Friday evening. He further said that senior officer from special control room will be looking at everything so that people may not face any problem while exercising their right to vote. A total of 673 candidates are in the fray for the 70-member Delhi Assembly. Delhi goes to polls on February 7, while the results will be declared on February 10. Feb 6, 2015

Alternative farming gives ray of hope to Aurangabad Farmers

Aurangabad, Feb 06 (ANI): Two brothers in Maharashtra have cultivated sweet limes in lieu of regular winter crops through innovative technique, using less water. The duo - Anil Chaudhary and Sunil Chaudhary - of Aurangabad district have come up with alternative farming of sweet limes to keep their cultivation going and earn their bread and butter. Anil planted around 1,500 sweet limes saplings in his eight acres of dried farm by taking loan from a bank. He connected his farm to a water body through pipe line which is situated 5-6 km away from his farm to save his cultivation from getting dried up. He said the farmers should not succumb to depression of not repaying the loans. India has two crops: Kharif - which is sown in summer and harvested during winter and Rabi - which are sown in winter and harvested in summer season. Feb 6, 2015

Declare election of candidate concealing criminal antecedents null and void: SC

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): The Supreme Court has said that the election of a candidate, who conceals his or her criminal antecedents during the nomination process, should be declared null and void. The apex court ruled that the suppression of criminal antecedents, especially relating to heinous crimes, by a candidate during nomination deprives voters to make an informed choice and creates impediments in the free exercise of electoral right. The judgment was delivered in a case relating to non-disclosure of full particulars of criminal cases pending against a candidate, Krishnamoorthy, who was elected as the President of Thekampatti Panchayat, Mettupalayam Taluk in Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu in 2006. Krishnamoorthy's election was challenged on the sole ground that he had filed a false declaration suppressing details of the criminal cases pending against him, and therefore, his nomination ought to have been rejected. New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): BJPs chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi, who ended her campaigning in her constituency of Krishna Nagar in east Delhi on Thursday, said she will spend her entire day with BJP workers today. She said that she will celebrate this evening with party workers. Even as Delhi is all set to go to polls tomorrow, Bedi visited a gurudwara in Krishna Nagar constituency and prepared 'langar'. She also offered prayers at the gurudwara along with party workers. Bedi had said she was "confident" that her party will win the polls. Counting of votes will take place on February 10. Feb 6, 2015
