Special prayers held ahead of India- Pakistan match in cricket WC- 2015

Vadodara/ Kanpur/ Mumbai, Feb 14 (ANI): Special prayers were held at famed Siddhi Vinayak Temple in Mumbai on Saturday (February 14) ahead of India-Pakistan match in cricket World Cup 2015. Indians across the country are hoping the 2011 defending champions will beat their traditional rival. Some former cricketers chanted hymns and kept the Cricket World Cup Trophy in front of Ganesha's idol to seek his blessings and good fortune. A fan in Vadodara said that beating Pakistan would be quite challenging. India won the 1983 and 2011 cricket World Cups, and fans are looking for another success this year. Another cricket fan said they were planning to install a giant screen to watch the game. Matches between India and Pakistan are fiercely competitive. India has never lost a single match to Pakistan in the World Cup tournament. Even when Pakistan won the 1992 World Cup the team had lost to India in their only clash of the tournament.

Valentine police punish lovers in Kanpur

Kanpur/ Chennai, Feb 14 (ANI): Right-wing Hindu group, Bajrang Dal, in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday harassed and beat up couples spending time together in public places on Valentine's Day, deeming the occasion as vulgar. Bajrang Dal workers in Kanpur snaked through streets on motorcycles, waving flags and shouting anti-Valentine slogans, and stormed public places to catch unguarded couples. He added that young couples should refrain from looking at Bollywood movies and actors as their inspiration. Meanwhile, in a unique ceremony in Chennai, stray dogs were married off as an opposition to Valentine's Day. Around 35 members of a regional Hindu Munnani group carried out a procession in streets, garlanded and smearing dogs' heads with colour. Local police later, detained Hindu Munnani cadres in a nearby community hall.

Modi exhorts farmers to make use of technology to increase farm production

Baramati, Feb 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday batted for use of technology in farming for better production and higher yields. He was speaking to farmers in Baramati in Maharasthra after laying the foundation stone for the Centre for Excellence for Vegetable Production. Modi called upon the farmers to embrace latest technology to make Indian agriculture globally competitive. About 70 percent of Indian population is employed in agriculture sector and majority of them still do farming in traditional style. But farmers face environmental problems such as depleted groundwater because of intensive pumping for irrigation, soil degradation and soil salinity.

Reactions flow as Kejriwal becomes Chief Minister of Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 14 (ANI): Political leaders reacted on Saturday as AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi. Union Minister of State Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Central government will extend full support to Delhi government for the state's development. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said that AAP needed a chance and it has got one to prove his ambitions. Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed said that people of Delhi will decide whether AAP government is able to win peoples' hearts or not. Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviews border fencing with Bangladesh

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia announces allocation of portfolios for ministers (Part-2)

New Delhi, Feb 14 (ANI): Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday announced the portfolios of ministers from the Aam Aadmi Party. Sisodia informed that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has not retained any ministry for himself. Sandeep Kumar will be taking care of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Social Welfare, SC/ST welfare. Gopal Rai will be in charge of transport, development, labor, general administration department and employment. Asim Ahmed Khan will look after food and civil supply, environment and forest, and election departments. Jitender Singh Tomar will be in charge of law and justice, home, tourism, art and culture. Satyendar Jain will take care of Power Ministry, health, industries, PWD and IFC. Sisodia will look after finance and planning, education, UD, revenue and any other department that is not allocated to any minister. Kejriwal will be focusing to make the Ministry work effectively and supervise their work, to make changes in system making use of modern technologies, and to connect directly with people of Delhi.
