BSF guns down smugglers, recovers 22 kilograms of heroin in Punjab

Amritsar, Nov 03 (ANI): India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) troopers gunned down smugglers and recovered 22 kilograms of heroin worth 1.1 billion rupees along the Indo-Pak border in Punjab. Giving details of the incident, BSF Inspector General Ashok Kumar said that one smuggler was shot dead while two of his accomplices were injured and 22 kg of heroin was seized from them at Dera Baba Nanak sector in Gurdaspur district. He added that the operation was launched on the basis of intelligence inputs, following which the patrolling party of 38 Battalion in Gurdaspur observed some suspicious movement in the area of Bohar Wadala border outpost. The patrolling party opened fire in retaliation as the smugglers, who were trying to cross over to the Pakistan side, challenged them. Three smugglers Tasveer Singh, Balwinder Singh and Fateh Singh , all residents of Kalanaur town in Haryana, received injuries. Nov 3, 2014

At least 55 killed and several injured in suicide blast on Pakistan side of Wagah border

Lahore, Nov 03 (ANI): At least 55 people were killed and more than 150 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up near the Indo- Pak border. The attack occurred shortly after a daily ceremony when troops from both sides simultaneously lower the two nations' flags. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a response to the Pakistani army's actions against their positions in tribal areas straddling Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. State police Chief Mushtaq Sukhera said that the explosion hit near the checkpoint at the Wagah border crossing as hundreds of people were returning from the military ceremony on the outskirts of Lahore. The daily flag-hoisting ceremonies by the Pakistani and the Indian military on their respective sides of the border draw crowds of hundreds. Mumbai, Nov 03 (ANI): Bollywood Actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar best known for playing negative roles, passed away at a hospital early on Monday. He was 64. Amrapurkar was being treated for lung infection at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH) in Mumbai and was admitted there two weeks ago and was on life support since then. In his long career, he has won two Filmfare awards - in 1984, he won the award for the best supporting actor for 'Ardh Satya' and in 1991, the best villain trophy for 'Sadak'. The actor is also known for his performance in Aankhen, Ishq, Coolie No 1 and Gupt: The Hidden Truth among others. Born and brought up in a Maharashtrain Brahmin family, Sadashiv Amrapurkar is fondly called Tatya by his family and close friends. Meanwhile, Bollywood grieved on the loss. Chamba, Nov 02 (ANI): At least 14 people were killed and 11 others injured after a bus fell into a gorge in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The private bus carrying 25 people was on its way to Himri in Saluni region when the driver lost control over the wheel and it fell into 100 feet deep gorge. While 12 people died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Half marathon in Visakhapatnam celebrates spirit of people

Visakhapatnam, Nov 02 (ANI): Thousands of people converged in port city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday (November 02) and took part in half marathon organised to salute the spirit of people who showed strength during cyclone Hudhud. Cyclone Hudhud had slammed into the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha last month, killing 41 people and tearing down tens of thousands of mud-and-thatch homes. Meanwhile, the half-marathon, organised by the Indian navy, celebrated the courage of people who rose above the storm and returned to normal lives. Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Satish Soni, said that the half marathon marked the spirit of Visakhapatnam, known to locals as Vizag. The funds generated from the run will be used for rehabilitation work and a part of it will also go to an orphanage. The marathon was categorized under 20 km run, 10 km run and five km walk.
