Water tanker mows down two people in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 27 (ANI): Two people were killed when a water tanker travelling at a high speed knocked down pedestrians and a stationary motorcycle at a traffic signal in Bengaluru. The accident, which took place near a mall on Bangalore International Airport Road was caught in a CCTV camera near the site. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of East Traffic Division, MNBR Prasad, confirmed two deaths. The driver of the tanker has been arrested and was produced before the magistrate, Prasad informed. The pedestrian, identified as Arpitha, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital while another person riding pillion on a motorcycle, Anand, died on the spot. Both the victims were in their early 20s.

Police seize heroin worth crores in Punjab

Amritsar, Feb 27 (ANI): Police in Punjab seized 50 kilograms of heroin worth 250 crore in international market and produced three accused in a court. Sleuths of counter intelligence wing of the police also seized 250 grams opium, a pistol and two motorcycles. The accused have been identified as Angrez Singh, Raja Singh and Joginder Singh, who are farmers. He added that the drugs were smuggled from Pakistan. The accused have been sent to three-day police remand.

Kashmiri separatist slams PDP for having double standards over AFSPA

Srinagar/ New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Yasin Malik slammed chief of People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for double standards. AFSPA gives security forces, battling militancy in the troubled regions of Kashmir and the northeast, sweeping powers to search arrest or shoot people. BJP-PDP have formed an alliance to work out a common programme that focuses on welfare and leaves aside traditionally contentious issues, including the size of the military's presence in the state. Malik added that their group was not afraid of Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP because their policies were straight forward policy. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said in New Delhi that the government has not yet decided on the scrapping of the act from the state.

Any provocation along working boundary will meet befitting reply: General Raheel Sharif

Sialkot, Feb 27 (ANI): Pakistan's army chief General Raheel Sharif visited Sialkot Garrison and forward locations on Working boundary and warned that any provocation along the line of control (LOC) and working boundary will meet a befitting response. On arrival at Sialkot, Lt Gen Ghayyur Mehmood, Corps Commander received the Army chief. While speaking to troops, the Army chief appreciated their high state of morale and operational preparedness on frontline. He said that repeated Indian ceasefire violations on working boundary and line of control, in the recent past are a distraction for Pakistan from its campaign against terrorism and adversely affect regional stability. The Army chief said, "Let there be no doubt that any provocation along the Line of Control and Working Boundary will meet a befitting response", a press release stated. The Army chief was given a detailed briefing by local commanders about the prevailing security situation at the working boundary.

Corporate Espionage Case: Delhi court sends two more accused to custodial interrogation

New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): A Delhi court sent two more people, arrested on suspicion of running a scam to steal documents from petroleum ministry to sell to energy consultants and private companies, to custodial interrogation. The two accused, identified as Jitender Nagpal and Vipan Kumar, were arrested by Delhi police on Wednesday for allegedly leaking confidential documents. Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said that they were trying to gather as much evidence on the basis of information provided by the two accused.
