2014 Commonwealth Games: India still at fifth position with 22 medals tally

New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): India ended Day 4 of the 2014 Commonwealth Games at No. 5 in the standings. Shooters continued to lead India_s medal charge with Shreyasi Singh winning silver in the women_s double trap event. While Mohammed Asab clinched bronze medal in the men_s double trap event. Punam Yadav of India also won bronze in 63kg women_s weightlifting. Weightlifting brought India some more joy as Satish Sivalingam and Ravi Katulu won gold and silver in the 77kg category. On the 4th day, the 2010 hosts touched medal count of 22 - six gold, nine silver and seven bronze - and the country still remained in the fifth place behind Australia, England, Scotland and Canada.

Students in Tamil Nadu spread awareness for International Tiger Day

Coimbatore, July 28 (ANI): Students of a school in Tamil Nadu formed a human chain to observe International Tiger Day and create awareness among people of the nation about decline in the number of the striped beauties by drawing tigers on the floor with the help of coloured powder. Over 800 students of Sarvajana School in Coimbatore formed a human chain saying, _We Want Tigers_. The students also raised slogans to save tigers. The school had held _Save Tiger_ Rangoli contest on the occasion of International Tiger Day which is celebrated on July 29 worldwide.

Aam Aadmi Party not to contest upcoming state polls, says Kejriwal

Sangrur, July 28 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party would not contest upcoming polls in four states except Delhi, said party Chief Arvind Kejriwal. Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir go to polls later this year. The Delhi assembly is in suspended animation as no political party is in position to form the government. The Aam Aadmi Party has urged Delhi_s Lieutenant Governor, Najeeb Jung, to dissolve the assembly and announce the polls. However, Jung is yet to take a decision on it. Sonia Gandhi hosts iftar party

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi hosted an iftar party at Delhi's posh Ashoka Hotel on Sunday for the political leaders, both Muslims as well as Hindus. Protest by civil services aspirants intensifies

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): The protest by India's civil services aspirants' intensified on Sunday with four students sitting on a fast unto death, demanding the scrapping of some part of the new examination format, conducting of examination in regional languages, especially Hindi and postponement of the preliminary test. The protesters are planning to protest semi-naked on Sunday evening so that their message is heard loud and clear by the government. Earlier, the government told the parliament that it had asked a committee to submit its report on the issue within a week to give level-playing field to those coming from rural areas. The angry students had damaged vehicles and blocked road on Thursday (July 24) evening after the UPSC issued admit cards for the preliminary examination to be held on August 24. The student wing of Congress party - NSUI, had also held a sit-in protest earlier to support the protesting students.
