Gaza civilians voice outrage as ceasefire ends with Hamas firing on Israel

Gaza Strip, July 27 (ANI): As a temporary ceasefire ended with Hamas firing more rockets, Gaza civilians voiced their outrage over the ongoing Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, calling it a massacre and saying that nearly half of the victims were innocent children. A 12-hour humanitarian ceasefire had come into effect in the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning after Hamas and Israel accepted a UN proposal late Friday night. Gaza's heath ministry said that the death toll in the 19-day Israeli offensive in Gaza has reached 1,030 and that more than 6,000 others have been injured. It added that most of the victims were innocent women and children. At Gaza Shifa Hospital, relatives of many victims grieve on their loss.

UN fears for Burmese refugees as Thailand plans to repatriate 100, 000 of them

Burma-Thailand Border, July 27 (ANI): Thailand began a census of Burmese refugees at the country's largest camp on July 21st. The government now run by the army says it will send home to Myanmar about 100, 000 of the refugees who've been living in camps along the border for more than two decades. But the United Nations High Commission for Refugees is concerned that those sent back to Myanmar will face serious dangers. Some of those now living in the refugee camps are also worried about the prospect of going back, while many fled to escape poverty, persecution and ethnic wars. There are an estimated 120, 000 Burmese refugees living in ten camps along the Thailand-Myanmar border.

NCW condemns UP govt as kin cry foul over autopsy report of Mohanlalganj murder victim

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): The NCW on Sunday cornered the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh after reports emerged that the post-mortem report in the Mohanlalganj assault case could have been manipulated. The family members of the victim had pointed out various discrepancies in the postmortem report submitted by a six-member medical team. While the autopsy report said that both kidneys of the lab assistant were intact, a family member claimed that it was wrong as she had donated one of her kidneys to her ailing husband on October 15, 2011. The victim of the horrific murder was also raped, news reports stated on Sunday. Sources further said that involvement of more than one person in the crime cannot be ruled out. The recent claims are contradictory to the version given by UP police which stated that the crime was a 'one-man operation.'

Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that the alliance was a good step forward and would lead to the defeat of BJP in the state. RJD leader Manoj Jha stated that they have set a good example by looking over individual differences and forming an alliance, not only for their own benefit but for the benefit of Bihar. On the other hand, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi from the BJP slammed the alliance sarcastically saying that RJD and JD (U) had come up as a force against Congress but now it would be interesting to see for how long such an alliance is able to function.

Commonwealth Games 2014: India at fifth place in medal tally

Glasgow, July 27 (ANI): Indian shooters hogged the limelight on Day three of the Commonwealth Games 2014 being held at Glasgow. Prakash Nanjappa gave India the first medal of the day by winning a silver in men’s 10m Air Pistol event. Soon after, Apurvi Chandela and Rahi Sarnobat clinched a gold medal each in shooting as India continued its good show at the games. Fire officials rescue 28 people stranded due to flood in Gujarat

Vadodara, July 27 (ANI): Fire officials in Gujarat state rescued 28 people, who were stranded near a flood-hit area along the banks of Vishwamitri River in Vadodara city. Due to heavy rains pounding the city since Friday evening, the water from Ajwa reservoir was released to the river, which has now flooded. Officials of Vadodara Municipal Corporation called fire officials as soon as they received information of stranded people. Firemen arrived and started rescue operations and all 28 people, including children, were rescued.

Artist in Odisha appeals for peace in Gaza conflict through sand art

Puri, July 27 (ANI): Urging Israel and Palestine to end the conflict and appealing for peace, world famous sand artist, Sudarsan Pattnaik, created a sand sculpture at Puri beach of Odisha. Pattnaik, who is India's fourth highest civilian award holder, created a five-feet high hand with 'Stop war' written on it and a pigeon holding 'a message of peace'. Calling peace a solution to Israel-Gaza crisis, he said a peace process must be initiated between both the countries and the United Nations (U.N.) should intervene.

India and Nepal sign MoU on various projects

MEA says India's relations with Nepal are friendly

Kathmandu, July 27 (ANI): MEA Spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin, said relations between India and Nepal are civilized in nature and India was open for any sort of talks between the nations. Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj is on a three-day visit to Nepal starting Friday.
