Congress retorts as BJP says rail fare hike was Congress' decision

New Delhi/ Mumbai, June 21 (ANI): BJP leader, Prakash Javadekar on Saturday said that the decision for the rail fare hike was taken by previous Congress government. Reacting over the same, Congress leader, Manish Tewari said that if BJP takes a decision then it must take responsibility for it and it is wrong to blame UPA for everything. The government has increased rail passenger fares by 14.2 percent and freight rates by 6.5 percent, which has led to an outcry by the opposition parties.

BMC reach Campa Cola Compound, residents fight eviction

Mumbai, June 21 (ANI): The officials of the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have reached the Campa Cola society to try and enter the premises of the compound and evict the residents of illegal flats in the society. But like yesterday, residents, led by women, have barricaded themselves in to stop civic teams that have arrived with cops to prepare grounds for their eviction in keeping with a Supreme Court order.

Campa Cola Society's residents refuse to budge, to continue silent protest against eviction

Mumbai, June 21 (ANI): Residents of unauthorised Campa Cola Housing Society in Mumbai refused to budge on Saturday saying they would continue their silent protest against demolition drive. Residents protested against Mumbai's civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), who had arrived at gates of the society for eviction. Distraught residents refused to vacate their homes and were willing to go to jail to prevent the BMC from razing down their houses. Seven high-rises were constructed at the Campa Cola Compound between 1981 and 1989. The builders had permission for only six floors, but constructed several more.

Congress protests over railway fare hike against NDA govt

New Delhi, June 21 (ANI): Congress workers in Delhi staged protest on Saturday under DPCC Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely over the hike in railway fare by 14.2 per cent and the subsequent hikes in other articles as a result of the same. The protesters shouted anti-BJP slogans and carried placards demanding to take back the hike. Lovely termed the fare hike the biggest in history and also mocked BJP’s 'good days are to come' slogan. Police also used water cannons to control the crowd. Meanwhile, CPI (M) workers also staged a protest against the hike in railway passenger and freight fare in the national capital.

DERC hints at revision of power tariff, congress reacts

New Delhi, June 21 (ANI): The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has hinted that it will revise electricity tariff in the city, which is still grappling with unprecedented power outages. DERC said that the electricity tariff could be increased in the city due to increase in the coal prices, which in turn had increased the cost of electricity production. Due to persistent pressure by the power distribution companies on the power regulator to increase the tariff, the hike could affect people across all the slabs.
