TMC now uses earthen pots to protest against amendment of MGNREGA outside Parliament

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs on Friday moved on from black umbrellas and shawls to demonstrating outside the parliament with earthen pots to protest outside against government's decision to amend the MGNREGA. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has brought work to millions of impoverished villagers. The party demanded that instead of amending the Act, the Centre should instead raise the wages paid under the popular scheme that guarantees a minimum 100 days of employment in a year to those living below poverty line in rural areas. Meanwhile, in an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 28 prominent economists said they were alarmed to hear of moves to change the NREGA, which provides jobs for 50 million households. Search operation continues amid fresh firing in J and K

Arnia, Nov 28 (ANI): The Indian army said on Friday that the search operations are still on amid fresh firing in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier in the day, fresh firing erupted in the town of Arnia and search operation was tightened to look for militant hideouts after gunmen wearing army uniforms on Thursday (November 27) attacked an army base near the border with Pakistan, leaving ten people dead in the worst militant violence in more than a year. Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), Manish Mehta said the search operation is still continuing to look for the hiding militant. There were four militants out of whom three were killed, and one is missing. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation to track down the hiding militant and retrieve the bodies of civilians killed in the gun battle, the PRO informed. The family members of the missing civilians are visiting the district hospital, presuming their loved ones to be the victim of the firing. Lawyer Himanshu Sharma said that the SC demanded an alternative from the Centre so that Sanskrit language can be introduced as the third language from the next academic session. Sushma Swaraj says abducted workers in Iraq alive

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday while speaking in the Rajya Sabha said that 39 abducted construction workers in Iraq were alive on the basis of information from six sources, thus contradicting eyewitness' account that they have been shot dead. Swaraj said the information was written and she had shared that information with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and other colleague. However, the foreign minister refused to divulge the identity of source, as it could hamper the rescue efforts, but admitted that government has no direct contact with the abductees.
