Kashmiri separatist leader calls for complete shutdown

Srinagar, Feb 09 (ANI): Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday called for complete shutdown in Kashmir to observe death anniversary of Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was executed for masterminding militant attack on Parliament in New Delhi. All the shops remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Srinagar as well as other parts of the valley. The normal business was affected due to the non availability of traffic. Meanwhile, the state government imposed a curfew across Srinagar to prevent protest rallies on the day. Security forces anticipating unrest have imposed curfew in Srinagar and ordered people off the streets. Police officers and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have stepped up surveillance across the city. However, a few residents managed to stage a protest in Srinagar despite the heightened security. Feb 9, 2015

Rohtak gangrape and murder: Police inspects site, investigation underway

Rohtak, Feb 09 (ANI): Haryana Police is investigating the site of alleged gangrape and murder of a mentally challenged woman in Rohtak. DGP of Haryana, YP Singhal said that investigation of the case is underway and police will leave no stone unturned to nab the guilty. Shrines of Sufi saints and their spirituality at Urs of Ejmail in Rajouri attract all faiths

Rajouri, Feb 09 (ANI): Kashmir, besides being called as paradise on earth, also houses shrines of various Sufi saints. These saints have preached oneness on the soil of Jammu and Kashmir which is a mix of different religious faiths. Their spirituality and simple life attracted people of different faiths and they embraced their teachings, besides holding them in high regard. A similar example is seen at the Shrine of Ejmail in Rajouri of Jammu and Kashmir, where devotees pay obeisance to saint and seek his blessings. Thronging the shrine in thousands, the devotees hold the day-and-night-long prayers to pay homage to the saint, besides asking for fulfillment of their wishes. Women, men and children chant hymns and offer prayers in the week long celebrations. The saint is highly revered by Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians of the Valley. Feb 9, 2015

Rajnath Singh chairs meeting of four CMs of Naxal affected states

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): In order to give shape to fight back against the Naxals, Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting of chief ministers of four Maoist-hit states in New Delhi on Monday. The Chief Ministers of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Odisha attended the meeting today. According to reports the meeting stressed on better coordination among state and central paramilitary forces of the four states to plug loopholes and counter the rebels. Bikers rally to create awareness on Rhino poaching in Assam

Guwahati, Feb 09 (ANI): Motorcyclists rode through streets of Guwahati in Assam to create awareness about endangered one-horned rhinoceros, typical to the region in the country. The bike rally, organised by Royal Enfield and a club Rhino Riders, saw participation of 50 enthusiasts who wore T-shirts with messages, 'Rhinos will live', and waved flags. A participant from Rhino Riders, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, said that it was important for citizens to know about the rampant killings of the animal. The thick-skinned, one-horned Indian rhinoceros is one of the five surviving rhino species in the world. Feb 9, 2015

Singapore president receives ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam attended official welcome in New Delhi on Monday at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Yam walked along a red carpet and stood under a red canvas as a military band played the Singapore and national anthem. On his arrival at the presidential palace, he was welcomed by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After brief pleasantries, Yam took the salute and inspected the guard of honour. Yam arrived in national capital on Sunday on a four-day-visit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): JD (U) leader KC Tyagi said on Monday that party Chief Sharad Yadav has expelled Jitan Ram Manjhi from JD (U) membership. Tyagi said that Manjhi, after meeting with PM Modi had completely changed his attitude which does not seem to be like the one of Chief Minister of a minority government. He also said that JD (U) will point out to the Governor that Jitan Manjhi doesn't enjoy majority support and added that Governor should give Jitan Manjhi 48 hours to prove majority or swear-in Nitish Kumar as CM and give him time to prove majority in 48 hours. Search continues for missing TransAsia crash victims
