Bangladeshi Hindus protest against injustice on International Human Rights Day

Dhaka, Dec 11 (ANI): The minority Hindu community in Bangladesh staged a protest in Dhaka against violence and injustice inflicted on them during the general elections earlier this year on International Human Rights Day. Violence had gripped Bangladesh as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ruling Awami League had pressed ahead with vote on January 05. Violent clashes had erupted in Bangladesh in December 2013 and January this year as opposition supporters had protested against a January 5 general election, which they boycotted letting more than half of 300 parliament seats go uncontested, undermining the legitimacy of the election. Vice-president of a human rights organization, Global Human Rights Defence, Manik Chandra Sarker, said it was unfortunate that the Bangladesh parliament had not addressed the plight of Hindus in the country. Like across the globe, International Human Rights Day commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been being observed in Bangladesh also. Dec 11, 2014
