Uttarakhand: Heavy rain halts Char Dham Yatra

Uttarakhand, July (ANI): The Char Dham yatra that takes devouts to Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines was halted on Wednesday following heavy rain in Uttarakhand. The Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway (NH) and the road connecting Kedarnath-Gaurikund have also been blocked following heavy downpour and landslides. The overflowing waters of Alaknanda River may create problem for low lying areas near the river, which constitutes of around 30,000 people living in the area. People are being evacuated in disaster prone areas and moved to safer places of upper terrain. Jul 16, 2014

Kulgam, July 16 (ANI): One Territorial Army jawan was shot dead as militants opened fire in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday. Sources said that suspected militants fired upon Gowhar Ahmad Matto, son of Bashir Ahmad Matto near Larm Ganjipora when he was on way to his home.
