Election Commission briefs about voter turnout in Haryana & Maharashtra

New Delhi, Oct 15 (ANI): Election Commission on Wednesday held a press conference and briefed about the assembly elections which were held in Haryana and Maharashtra. ECI deputy election commissioner Sudhir Tripathi said that the voter turnout in Maharashtra till 5 pm was recorded at 54.5%. He added that the voter turnout percentage is likely to be increased upto 62% till voting time ends. Another deputy election commissioner Umesh Sinha said that Haryana had the highest voter turnout ever in the assembly elections reaching around 73%.

Manipuri student attacked in Bangalore for not speaking in Kannada

Bangalore, Oct 15 (ANI): Miscreants attacked an engineering student from Manipur, T Michael Lamjathang Haokip, in Bangalore for not speaking in local language. Haokip, president of a students’ association, and his friends were attacked when they were eating food on October 14. On our way back to our home, on the roadside we were having a small discussion and refreshment. Then three locals came and since we were engaged in our discussion, they questioned us you are eating Karnataka food and you are living in Karnataka, you have to speak Kannada. Why don’t you speak Kannada? Or else get lost from this place. He alleged that none of the on-lookers came forward to help them. Haokip has sustained injuries on his head, back, shoulders, foot and ankle. Two of his friends have sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Alok Kumar, said that three persons were arrested and strict action will be taken. Meanwhile, Indian woman boxer, MC Mary Kom, condemned the incident.

Opposition says elections in flood hit J&K should be delayed

New Delhi, Oct 15 (ANI): Congress party said on Wednesday (October 15) that elections in flood affected state of Jammu and Kashmir must not take place until normalcy returns. CPI leader Atul Anjan, also said elections should be delayed. However, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reportedly, wants to have elections across the state as scheduled as it feels the rescue and rehabilitation work conducted by it in Jammu and Kashmir might help boost its image. Supreme Court slams Centre over Ganga cleaning project

New Delhi, Oct 15 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed the Centre over the Ganga cleaning project and questioned about its vision for the project. During the hearing of the case, the apex court asked the Centre whether it has a vision which is similar to that of Delhi Metro former chairman E Sreedharan. Lawyer Vijay Panjwani said that the SC has asked for reports of all the meetings which were held between the central government and central pollution control.

Visitors flock Jim Corbett National Park as it reopens post Monsoon

Ramnagar, Oct 15 (ANI): Visitors flocked to see tigers roaming free and wild in the world famous sanctuary at Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand as it reopened on Wednesday after four months of closure because of the monsoon. According to Deputy Director, Corbett Tiger Reserve, Dr Saket Badola, the Bijrani zone has been reopened today while the other zones will reopen on 15th of November. Jim Corbett National Park was established in 1936 to safeguard the endangered tiger. It is primarily a tiger reserve but there are around 600 species of birds and animals - out of which 586 are birds. Corbett has been divided into four safari zones, namely Dhikala Zone, Jhirna Zone, Bijrani Zone and Durga Devi Zone.
