Traditional Buffalo fight thrills scores of spectators in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Oct 15 (ANI): Scores of spectators thronged to witness the thrilling one-day buffalo fighting festival organised as part of local tradition and religious belief in Himachal Pradesh. The buffalo fight organised in Poabo village nearly 10 kilometers from Shimla saw villagers coming from more than 15 villages who brought their buffalos to participate in the match. The century-old buffalo fight is performed annually and involves the specially reared animals being brought to the ring, following which they are provoked for the duel. Organiser Rameshwar Thakur believed that it is a rich heritage which they want to preserve for future generations. The tradition is also to pacify the god Saturn and villagers believe that an opportunity to watch and participate in this fighting is a way to please Saturn which would bring happiness and prosperity. Upon arriving in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, he was taken by a helicopter to Rupganj, a sub-district of Narayanganj. Nalanda, Oct 15 (ANI): An Islamic religious school - madarsa - in Bihar has banned admission for girls as there is no separate sitting arrangement for them in the campus. Madarsa Azizia in Bihar Sharif, district headquarters of Nalanda district, has issued a diktat that girls will not be enrolled and those already enrolled will not be allowed into the premises. He further added the decision has been taken in the wake of social evils prevailing in the society. Madarsa Azizia is run by Soghra Wakf Estate Committee.
