Flood Victims laud Indian Army for commendable rescue operations in JandK

Srinagar, Sep 09 (ANI): Thousands of people rescued from the flood hit areas of Kashmir, lauded the Indian Army for its commendable operation in bringing them to safety. Some 2,500 communities are destroyed or partially underwater, while thousands of people are stranded on their rooftops still waiting for rescue. Major flooding following heavy rains caught people in low-lying areas off guard and nearly 5,000 people had to be rescued by the army. About 22 Air force helicopters and four aircraft were deployed to evacuate the stranded people and to deliver relief. About 120 army units and eight teams of police reservists, equipped with boats and life jackets, were in action. Another flood victim, Umesh Yadav said that they were rescued by Army helicopters from the terrace of the building. Sep 9, 2014

At least 38 people died after landslide in Udhampur of J and K

Udhampur, Sep 09 (ANI): At least 38 people are feared dead after a landslide, triggered by heavy rains, submerged an entire village in Udhampur district of Kashmir, said a police officer. Nearly 22-23 houses were buried under the landslide. The administration has recovered seven bodies while 31 people are still missing. Additional Superintendent of police, Khalil Poswal said rescue operation was underway to trace the bodies or survivors from the debris. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew over the Kashmir valley on Sunday to take stock of the situation and said that the disaster is of the whole nation. Some 2,500 villages have been partially or completely submerged across the area, while thousands of people are stranded on rooftops waiting to be rescued. Sep 9, 2014

Pak PM extends helping hand to India post PM Modi's offer to help flood hit PoK

New Delhi/ Islamabad, Sep 09 (ANI): Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the latter's offer to help in flood relief operations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Acknowledging Modi's letter, Prime Minister Sharif said, "Such solidarity in the face of crisis is indeed valuable." The Pakistani Prime Minister reciprocated with an offer to "lend a helping hand in any way possible." He also established hope that such "closer collaboration in disaster management should be a part of the agenda of peace and development in region. SC adjourns hearing on govt formation in Delhi till Oct 10

New Delhi, Sept 09 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred hearing on AAP petition seeking to dissolve Delhi Assembly till October 10. The central government told the Supreme Court that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi had written to the President saying that the BJP should be allowed to form the state government and sought four more weeks over the formation of the next government. In a major blow to AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, the Apex Court turned down to consider AAP sting that BJP was involved in horse trading. The top court will take up on October 10 AAP's affidavit on 'sting' operation showing a BJP leader allegedly offering its MLA money to defect. Meanwhile, reacting over this Kejriwal said that AAP has stated that they are not interested in forming the government but will do everything in their power to stop the BJP.He also accused LG Najeeb Jung of batting for the BJP. Hafiz Saeed blames India for devastating floods in Pakistan

Pakistan, Sept 09 (ANI): Jamaat-u-Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed blamed India for causing deadly flooding in Pakistan by deliberately diverting waters from dams in Jammu and Kashmir. Both the Indian and Pakistani sides have been ravaged by floods that have killed at least 239 people as rivers burst their banks after heavy monsoon rains. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who recently cancelled high-level peace talks and accused Pakistan of fighting a "proxy war", was more conciliatory in a letter to his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif, on September 07. India will not block sick Italian marine's treatment: Sushma

New Delhi, Sept 09 (ANI): India will not stop Italian marine facing murder charges from returning home for medical treatment, said Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, a case that has soured relations between New Delhi and Rome. Supreme Court will decide whether to accept the appeal filed by one of the two Italian marines, to go home on medical grounds for recovery after he was admitted to a hospital for a health condition similar to a mild stroke. The marines, Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, part of a military security team protecting a tanker from piracy are accused of shooting two Indian fishermen off the coast of Kerala in February 2012. Supreme Court lawyer, KTS Tulsi, said that one of the Italian marines has filed an appeal to go back to Italy on medical grounds after he was admitted to a hospital complaining of some health problems.
