Virender Sehwag says don't ban bouncers in wake of Hughes' death

Mumbai, Dec 03 (ANI): Indian batsman Virender Sehwag said that banning bouncers following the death of Australia's Phillip Hughes would be unfair on bowlers because batsmen always have the option of ducking under short-pitched deliveries. Hughes, who would have been 26 at the weekend, died last week from an injury caused by a ball striking him on the back of the head during a domestic match, triggering a huge outpouring of grief in Australia and around the world.

Home Minister pays homage to soldiers killed in Maoist attack

Raipur, Dec 3 (ANI): Home Minister, Rajnath Singh paid homage to 14 paramilitary personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) killed in the deadly Maoists attack and announced compensation for the bereaved families. Maoist guerrillas ambushed a paramilitary patrol in Chhattisgarh on December 01 in the biggest rebel attack this year. The attack took place in remote Sukma district, in the jungle of Chhattisgarh, where members of the CRPF had been sent to flush the rebels out of their base. Singh said that though the loss caused by this incident was irreparable but the injured and the families of the victims will be given compensation by the government. Singh also said that the country needs to come together to face the challenge of red terror.

Contaminated Water Making Life Difficult for People of PoK

Muzaffarabad, PoK, December 02, 2014: Despite being endowed with abundant water resources, PoK is plagued by an acute contamination of its water bodies leading to water shortages and other health issues. With natural sources drying up or being declared unfit for human use, many in capital Muzaffarabad have had to negotiate treacherous terrain to fetch water from far off areas. Many depend on the local administration for drinking water. But residents allege that in the light of no response from government the problem manifests, year after year. With 86 percent of water being declared unfit for consumption, the problem is becoming grave by the day. Water borne diseases like dysentery, cholera and typhoid are common complaints among the local population. The Neelum Valley Project was intended to solve the problem of water scarcity in the Himalayan region, but much of the water harnessed here, has been diverted to the big cities of Pakistan. The erratic monsoons have led to a dip in the water table. The drainage from surrounding areas has polluted several lakes too. Locals say the water supply is infected by the sewer water.

Indian orange traders complain of losses due to heavy excise duty by Bangladesh

Siliguri, Dec 03 (ANI): Orange traders in West Bengal complained of huge losses due to heavy excise duty imposed by Bangladesh government. Traders say that the export is very poor this time as the custom duty of rupees 40 ($0.64) on every kg is charged by Bangladesh Customs. Meanwhile, traders complain that Bhutan does not pay any duty to Bangladesh and hence the latter is purchasing oranges from Bhutan. Indian oranges are highly in demand because of its taste and quality and that is why it is exported in large quantities every year. Around 60 percent to 70 percent of oranges are exported from India to Bangladesh but due to heavy duty this time, the traders are facing a lot of problems.
