TESO protests Sri Lankan detention of Indian fishermen

Chennai, Sep 3 (ANI): The Tamil Eelam Supporters Organization (TESO) on Wednesday held a demonstration in Chennai against the detention of fishermen by Sri Lankan authorities. DMK leader MK Stalin, while addressing the gathering of protesters, demanded that the fishermen and their boats held by Sri Lanka should immediately be released. On Tuesday (September 03) morning, nine fishermen were arrested by Lankan naval personnel when they were returning from the Palk Strait. Also, the Sri Lankan Navy on Tuesday allegedly sank an Indian fishing boat by colliding against it and arrested 15 fishermen from a coastal town in Tamil Nadu province. Sep 3, 2014

Two college students shot dead in UP after dispute over ragging

Hathras, Sep 03 (ANI): A dispute between two groups over ragging left two college students dead in Hathras city of Uttar Pradesh. The Deputy Inspector General of police, Satyendra Veer Singh, said on Wednesday (September 03) that an argument regarding ragging of a boy in college led to the dispute and the firing. The police are investigating and have registered a case against three students belonging to one of the groups. Following a Supreme Court Order ragging was banned in 2009. Every institution in the country must now have an anti-ragging committee and an anti-ragging squad. A national anti-ragging helpline has also been set up. Sep 3, 2014

Glider crashes into house in Kanpur

Kanpur, Sep 03 (ANI): A glider plunged into a house on Wednesday (September 03) in Kanpur city of Uttar Pradesh state, the pilot sustained injuries. A trainee woman pilot got injured after she lost control during the flight. Area Councilor, Irshad Alam said that injured pilot has been admitted in the hospital. Varanasi, Sep 3 (ANI): As a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to develop smart cities in the country, a village of renowned Hindi poet, Munshi Premchand, which comes under Modi’s constituency of Varanasi, is set to develop as the first smart village. Lamhi village in Varanasi city in Uttar Pradesh will be equipped with all facilities and villagers will no longer have to visit other districts or cities for any administrative-related work. Data of each household will be collected and services would be just one step away. District Magistrate, Pranjal Yadav, said everything would be computerized and any application will be filled in the village itself. Data will be collected based on 36 points, including land, personal, income and others. A unique account number will be generated, which will be given to the villagers.
