Devotees perform 'ancient Garba' to please Goddess Durga during Navratri

Surat, Sept 27 (ANI): Hundreds of Hindu devotees, especially women, performed the traditional dance (Garba) in honour of Mother Goddess Durga during the festival of nine nights, Navratri, in Surat city of Gujarat. Women decked in traditional attire have played the ancient Garba in Surat city for the past hundreds of years holding lit earthen pots on the head. This is considered an auspicious old tradition, with the lit earthen pot symbolising a fertile womb. Navratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm and people drench into the music of Garba for nine-long-days, representing the nine manifestations of the divine mother. Sep 27, 2014

Civil societies extend relief materials to flood affected J and K

Rajouri, Sep 27 (ANI): A New Delhi based non-profit charitable trust, Thakurdwara, collected and sent the much needed relief material to Rajouri district of flood- affected Jammu. Three trucks carrying relief material worth rupees 50 lakh reached Rajouri. Relief material included shelter kits, bed sheets, towels, milk powder and tarpaulin sheets. Both the Indian and Pakistani sides of the disputed Himalayan region have seen extensive flooding this month, with Srinagar particularly hard hit. Hundreds of people have been killed and tens of thousands are homeless. District Development Commissioner, Jatinder Kumar Singh said that according to the data collected so far, 9,000 homes have been damaged in the floods, out of which 3,000 have been totally ruined and such contributions are a big help for the administration. Delhi HC asks OP Chautala to surrender before Oct 17, politicos react

New Delhi, Sep 27 (ANI): In a major blow to former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, who has been convicted in JBT recruitment scam case, the Delhi High Court has asked him to surrender on or before October 17. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief is currently out of prison on bail on health grounds. The INLD leader recently addressed a political rally in Haryana's Jind town where he slammed the Congress government for sending him to jail by implicating him in JBT scam. Chautala even vowed to take oath in jail if his party emerged winner in the assembly polls. Uma Bharti wields broom to promote cleanliness drive

New Delhi, Sep 27 (ANI): Water Resource Minister Uma Bharti along with her officers on Saturday wielded the broom in the premises of Shram Shakti Bhavan outside her office to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project 'Swacch Bharat Abhiyan'. Bharti said that she will continue to clean the premises of the office for the next seven days and seeing her clean the premises the employees would keep the place clean out of shame or out of duty sense. Politicos react as SandP upgrades India s credit outlook from negative to stable

New Delhi, Sep 27 (ANI): Political leaders on Saturday react as Standard and Poor's lifted India's rating outlook to 'stable' from 'negative', acknowledging efforts by the Narendra Modi government to maintain fiscal discipline. BJP leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Sambit Patra said that this is the result of efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government. Vitthal Radadiya is a BJP MP as well a farmers' leader from Porbandar. His son Kalpesh Radadiya died of cardiac arrest seven months ago, leaving behind wife Manisha and two children. Manisha's in-laws want that she led a happy life after her husband's demise and said that the wedding will set an example for the society.
