UK defence secy unveils plaques in memory of six Indian soldiers for bravery in World War I

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon in New Delhi unveiled plaques in memory of six Indian soldiers, who won Victoria Cross for their bravery during the World War I. Earlier, Fallon said his country would never forget enormous service rendered by Indian heroes while commemorating their contribution in the World War I under the United Kingdom's flag. India's Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said these plaques will be sent to hometowns of the soldiers. This year marks the centenary of World War I, which was fought between 1914 and 1918. The UK has funded a battlefield guide book that will be available for those families, who wish to visit France and Flanders battlefields. It has also sponsored table book giving a pictorial overview of India and the Great War, a part from it, digitising the war diaries of the Indian fighters. Oct 31, 2014

Nation pays tribute to Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): The nation is paying tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary on Friday. Congress Party President and Indira Gandhi's daughter-in-law Sonia Gandhi and members of her family were the first to reach Shakti Sthal, the memorial dedicated to Indira Gandhi to pay a floral tribute. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also present at the venue. Other leaders and people from all walks of life are expected to follow. Indira Gandhi fell to assassins' bullets on this day in 1984 at her 1, Safdarjung Road residence in New Delhi. She was killed by her Sikh bodyguards more than four months after Operation Blue Star, which was launched on the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Functions will also be held at the Indira Gandhi Memorial at 1 Safdarjung Road. Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee also paid tribute at Shakti Sthal to mark Indira Gandhi's death anniversary. Pranab Mukherjee and Rajnath Singh flags off 'Run for Unity' to mark Sardar Patel's birth anniversar

New Delhi/ Hyderabad, Oct 31 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday flagged off 'Run for Unity' at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary. The residents and staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan, along with the President's Bodyguard, the army guard and the Delhi Police participated in the run. A Unity pledge was also administered by Omita Paul, secretary to the president, to all the staff members prior to the run. Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off 'Run for Unity' in Hyderabad to mark the birth anniversary of Patel. He flagged off the run after paying tributes to Sardar Patel at his statue near assembly building. A large number of people, majority of them BJP workers, participated in the run. Oct 31, 2014

Rajnath Singh addresses passing out parade at National Police Academy in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Oct 31 (ANI): Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday addressed the passing out parade at National Police Academy in Hyderabad. Singh said that the ‘Dikshant Parade’ is being held in the academy after a gap of ten years on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary. He added that credit of merging 562 princely states with India goes only to Sardar Patel. Speaking on cyber crime, Singh said that the impact of cyber crime is global and that Singh has directed his department to formulate an effective prevention strategy for cyber crime. Oct 31, 2014
