Members of Transgender Community pledge to donate their eyes after death

Pune, June 13 (ANI): More than 100 members of transgender community in Pune city of Maharashtra set up an example for others to follow as they pledged to donate their eyes after their death. A Pune-based non-governmental organisation, Late Shankarrao Bhoi Smruti Pratishthan, has been able to encourage more than 15000 people to fill up eye donation forms in the last 15 years. A member of the transgender community, Panna Gabrel, who was present at the donation drive, said like everyone else they also have the right to contribute to this nation. The president of Bhoi foundation, Milind Bhoi, was also present at the drive. He said more than 700,000 people are visually-impaired in India and in need of an eye transplant. Jun 13, 2014

Mandi/ Hyderabad, June 13 (ANI): Survivors of the Himachal Pradesh river tragedy which swept away 24 students blamed negligence of safety measures at the site Beas River as the cause of deaths. The survivors said besides the college authorities, state tourism department were also responsible for lack of caution signs at the site. Meanwhile, two more bodies were recovered on Thursday and were flown to their home town. In an effort to provide cool shelters to birds, jute bags have been placed on cages on which water is sprayed periodically, so that the enclosures remain cool. A visitor to Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park in Patna city of Bihar, Mohammed Mustaq, said special steps have been taken by the zoo authorities to provide them with summer comfort.
