TRS chief stakes claim to form government in Telangana

Hyderabad, May 18 (ANI): Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrashekar Rao, on Sunday staked claim to form his government in Telangana, which would come into existence on June 01, after winning the general election. Present southern state of Andhra Pradesh will be split into Telangana and Seemandhra on June 01, as per the parliament law. Rao met Andhra Pradesh Governor Ekkadu S. L. Narasimhan and formally informed about his election as the legislature party leader and introduced the newly elected legislators in Hyderabad. TRS won 62 seats in 117-member Telangana assembly. A TRS leader, E. Rajender, said they would have better relation with the central government.

Speculations continue over Bihar's next CM's selection

Patna / New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): Nitish Kumar's resignation from the post of Bihar's chief minister has triggered speculation over who among the JD (U) legislators would be the next chief minister of the state. Kumar has not recommended dissolution of the assembly, this leaving a window for formation of a new government, if any other party cobbles up majority in the 243-member house. The JD-U legislators will meet on Sunday evening to elect their new leader. A senior JD-U leader Narendra Singh, who is believed to have been leading a quiet rebellion within the party against Kumar for breaking 17-year old alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), refuted speculation that he could be the new chief minister.

MK Stalin withdrew his resignation after DMK convinces him

Chennai, May 18 (ANI): Taking a U-turn, DMK Treasurer and party chief M Karunanidhi's son MK Stalin withdrew his resignation on Sunday, said party leader Durai Murugan. Taking moral responsibility for the party's defeat in the hands of AIADMK in 2014 general elections, Stalin had submitted his resignation to the party. Stalin took the decision after party leaders convinced him on the same and said that hard times will be dealt with by all party workers together.

JD (U) supporters stage protest against Sharad Yadav

Patna, May 18 (ANI): Workers and supporters of JD (U) staged protest against party chief Sharad Yadav and urged Nitish Kumar to assume his office. Party workers took to streets on Sunday and demanded that Kumar should take back his decision of resigning as the state chief. Kumar, leader of JD (U), tendered his resignation on Saturday (May 17) to Governor DY Patil after taking moral responsibility of the defeat in general elections. Later, Patil accepted the resignation. The JD-U won only two parliamentary seats out of 40 in Bihar while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) cornered 31 seats.

Three RJD MLAs resign to support Nitish

Patna, May 18 (ANI): Three rebel RJD MLAs on Sunday resigned from the Bihar Assembly to extend their support to Nitish Kumar after his resignation as Bihar chief minister. Samrat Chaudhary, Ram Lakhan Ram Raman and Javed Iqbal submitted their resignation letters to Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhary. Samrat Chaudhary said that he has resigned to support Nitish. Nitish creating drama, BJP not in favour of dissolving assembly: BJP

New Delhi/ Patna, May 18 (ANI): BJP leaders react over the recent heat of events in Bihar politics after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation. Nand Kishore Yadav said that BJP will meet the state Governor to discuss Bihar's political situation and put forward BJP's point of view. He added that BJP is not in favour of dissolution of Assembly in Bihar. Meanwhile, Ram Kripal Yadav said that Nitish Kumar is creating a drama and people of Bihar will not be taken in his act.
