Indians in New York City react to Narendra Modis win

New York, May 17 (ANI): Residents in New York City welcomed the news of India's next Prime Minister, Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Modi's landslide, the most resounding election victory India has seen in 30 years, was welcomed with a blistering rally on India's stock markets and spirited celebrations in New York, where supporters danced to a drum beat, wore Modi masks, and handed out sweets. The BJP looked certain of a parliamentary majority, giving the 63-year-old former tea-seller ample room to advance reforms started 23 years ago by current Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but which stalled in recent years.

Obama congratulates Modi on emphatic poll win.

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): US President Barack Obama telephoned BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and congratulated him on his "emphatic election victory". According to reports, Obama told Modi that the largest democracy in the world has given a "decisive mandate". He said that he wished that under Narendra Modi's leadership, India will contribute significantly at the global level. Both leaders reportedly also discussed the India-U.S. Strategic Partnership and the prevailing global economic situation.

Narendra Modi to attend 'Ganga Aarti' in Varanasi today

Varanasi, May 17 (ANI): A day after the declaration of Lok Sabha election results, BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will on Saturday visit Varanasi to thank people for their support. Varanasi is the second Lok Sabha constituency from which he won handsomely. Party leader said that Modi will fly into the temple town from New Delhi after the BJP's parliamentary board meeting and will reach Varanasi in the evening. He will proceed straight to the Kashi Vishwanath temple and then address a public rally before taking part in the Ganga Arti on the bank of the river Ganga.

Narendra Modi to take part in road show in Delhi on his arrival

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): After securing a handsome 337 majority win for the BJP-led NDA in the 2014 general elections, Narendra Modi will arrive in Delhi on Saturday morning to take part in a road show which will be more of a victory procession by him. Following which, he will attend a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board at the party headquarters in Lutyen's Delhi. The BJP has decided to use his journey from the Indira gandhi International Airport (IGIA) to the BJP headquarters as a victory procession. The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory asking commuters to avoid certain roads that fall on or around the route that the Modi roadshow will take and security has been tightened ahead of his arrival in the national capital.
