Rain and hailstorm lashes Delhi and Noida, Mumbai faces high tides

New Delhi/ Mumbai, June 12 (ANI): Residents of Delhi and Noida finally got relief from the blistering heat on Thursday as strong winds and heavy rain lashed the city. Some parts in Noida witnessed a hailstorm as well. The showers brought much needed relief from the heat wave aggravated by power cuts in the national capital. The mercury reached a 62-year-high of 47.8 degrees Celsius June 8 in certain parts of the national capital. Meanwhile, Mumbai also witnessed high tides with just a few days left for the monsoon to hit the western metropolis. The high tides also led to water-logging in low lying areas of Mumbai on Thursday.

Campa Cola Society case: BJP leader asks Maharashtra Govt. for parity of law

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shaina NC on Thursday called for a parity of law on the part of the Maharashtra Government, and said if it is going to demolish the Campa Cola Society, then it should also demolish other illegal buildings in the city as well. She also said that the government should be more considerate, given that the residents of the Campa Cola Society are willing to pay the penalty and are ready to give some part of their land.

BSE closes points 27.98 down on June 12

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 27.98 points down to stand at 25,576.21. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 23.05 points up to stand at 7,649.90. Crisil and Biocon were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 8.60% and 6.76% along with Godrej Industries and Muthoot Finance with an increase of 6.37% and 4.95% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Suzlon Energy and JP Infratec with a decrease of 4.98% and 4.80% along with Bharti Airtel and HDIL with a decrease of 3.92% and 3.73% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 92.14 points at 15,459.10 while the banking sector is up 26.43 points at 17,718.78 and the realty sector is up 11.97 points at 2,109.02. The Indian currency is down 0.08% at Rs 59.32 per dollar.

Congress protests against Delhi electricity crisis

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): Congress workers on Thursday carried out protest against the ongoing electricity crisis in Delhi. The protest comes a day after Congress MLA Jai Kishan's hunger strike against the prolonged crisis. Infosys names former SAP executive Vishal Sikka as CEO

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): Infosys Ltd on Thursday named former SAP AG executive board member Vishal Sikka as its CEO. With his appointment, Sikka becomes the first non-founder CEO of Infosys, which is India's second-largest IT services exporter. The company also informed that Executive Chairman NR Narayana Murthy would step down on Saturday, nearly a year after he was brought in from retirement to help the company better compete with rivals including Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro. Sikka will take over from current Chief Executive SD Shibulal, one of the engineers who founded Infosys, from August 1.

Seventh body recovered from Beas river, search still on

Mandi, June 12 (ANI): Rescuers recovered a seventh body from the River Beas on Thursday. A search is still on to find the remaining 17 bodies from the river which had swept away 24 college students and a tour operator earlier this week. Meanwhile, a team of Navy officials visited the place and is likely to assist in rescue operations. More divers with latest equipments are also expected to join the search operations. The students, belonging to VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology in Hyderabad, were clicking photographs when they were swept away by the river after the officials released water from the Larji Dam located upstream.
