Women's National Football championship in Assam brings together players from across the country

Assam, May 15 (ANI): The game of football is extremely popular in the Northeast. The ongoing 20th Senior Women's National Football Championship in Assam is witnessing a large turnout of people keen to watch the games. The national sporting event, being organized for the 1st time by the Dibrugarh and Golaghat District sports associations, was inaugurated recently at the Dibrugarh outdoor stadium. During the inaugural ceremony, artists presented various cultural performances, including Bihu dance. A total of 22 teams from 21 states and the Railways have been divided into 4 groups. The matches will be played at Golaghat, Dergaon, Chabua and Dibrugarh. The championship commenced with the inaugural match between West Bengal and Delhi.

BJP prepares for win in General Elections

Gujarat, May 15 (ANI): Confident of a win with clear majority, BJP gears up to celebrate its victory in the country's mammoth general elections on Thursday, a day before the poll results. With a few more hours remaining for the fate of the world's largest democracy to be decided, BJP in Gujarat has already started preparing for the post-win celebrations and interactions. The confidence comes from the exit polls, conducted after the poll exercise ended on May 12, which showed the BJP and its allies would touch half-way mark in the 543-member Lok Sabha of the Parliament. Meanwhile, BJP members in Rajkot also prepared for the celebrations to be held tomorrow. They plan to lighten the city with bursting crackers as soon as the results are declared, apart from setting up a large screen where results will be telecasted.

Amul plant to open in Varanasi soon

Gujarat, May 15 (ANI): India's leading milk and dairy products supplier Amul is soon extending its plant installation from Gujarat to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The Chairman Parthi Bhatol said that the UP government has given permissions to open a milk plant in Varanasi where the demand of milk is very high. He added that permissions have also been sought to open plants in Kanpur and Lucknow along with Varanasi.

Stock market prepared for volatility on polls result day: SEBI

Mumbai, May 15 (ANI): Chairman of Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) UK Sinha held a press conference in Mumbai where he talked about the market fluctuations and that they are now ready to handle any stress in the market towards the lead up to election results. Indian shares edged up on Thursday to near the record highs with a strong sign that Narendra Modi led NDA government will come to power. Sinha said that they are conducting daily tests on the market and their risk management program is answering well to the tests and they are satisfied with the results.

Also, the school does not have a proper fence, which compromises the privacy of the students.

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Scarlett Johansson has sued a French novelist for 50,000 euros in damages for his work of fiction that makes fraudulent claims about her personal life. The fictional work titled 'La Premiere Chose qu'On Regarde' (The First Thing We Look At) is written by Gregoire Delacourt, a leading daily reported.The book tells the story of a French model who looks so similar to the American actor that the book's lead male character thinks it is Johansson herself and has a series of adventures as Johansson until she is eventually found out and, in the end, dies in a car crash.Johansson's lawyer said that Delacourt's novel constituted a violation and fraudulent and illegal exploitation of her name, her reputation and her image and that it contains defamatory claims about her private life.

Parliament takes slew of measures to ensure smooth arrival of new lawmakers

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): The Secretary General of the Lower House P Sreedharan on Thursday said that the Parliament has taken a slew of measures to ensure smooth arrival of newly elected lawmakers in New Delhi. Sreedharan said the government has set up six guide posts at airport and three railway stations in the capital to receive the newly-elected members and facilitate their journey to the parliament or the place of their stay. He added that the posts would be operational from May 16. He also said the chief electoral officers and returning officers in the district have also been informed of details to guide the lawmakers.

Students protest against DU professor over his alleged Maoist links

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Members of a student organization took to streets in New Delhi on Thursday against a Professor at University of Delhi, G.N. Saibaba, as they demanded his suspension over alleged Maoist links. Professor of English, Saibaba was arrested by police in Maharashtra on May 09. Members of ABVP, a right-wing all-India student organization, also paid tribute to the soldiers who were killed in the Maoist attacks. According to reports, the English professor, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, was running an organization acting as a front for Maoists.

BSE closes points 90.48 up on May 15

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 90.48 points up to stand at 23,905.60. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 14.40 points up to stand at 7,123.15.Titan Company Ltd. and Apollo Tyres were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 5.99% and 5.64% along with National Aluminium Co.Ltd. and Tata Chemicals Ltd. with an increase of 5.51% and 5.34% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include JandK Bank and Asian Paints with a decrease of 5.45% and 4.89% along with Motherson Sumi and Tata Chemicals with a decrease of 4.81% and 4.58% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 65.84 points at 14,106.36 while the banking sector is up 23.32 points at 16,279.74 and the realty sector is down 16.94 points at 1,515.16.The Indian currency is down 0.59% at Rs 59.33 per dollar.
