J&K flood victims thank Indian Army for continued support and relief operations

Poonch, Sep 22 (ANI): Flood victims in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir thanked the army for relief and rescue operations in the valley that is facing the brunt of excessive flooding. The army together with the police set up a relief camp in the Potha-Baila region of the Poonch sector from where about 82 families were rescued. Though the district administration in Poonch has provided them with 36 tents, victims say the army has provided food to those affected for almost a fortnight. The Indian army has deployed about 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations and soldiers have distributed 224,000 litres of water and food to survivors. Medical camps set up by the army are also providing first aid and other medical support to those affected. Sep 22, 2014

Bangalore/ Bhopal, Sep 22 (ANI): The statement of Pakistan People's Party Leader Bilawal Bhutto regarding Kashmir was strongly condemned across the country and sparked strong protests on Monday in various states of India. Members of the Indian Youth Congress in Bangalore city of Karnataka shouted anti-Bhutto slogans and burnt the banner bearing his picture. A member of Youth Congress, Pramod Shankar said that Kashmir would always remain an integral part of India. Besides, protests were also held in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh by members of Students’ Union. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members also protested against Bhutto. The protesters burnt his effigy and shouted ‘anti-Pakistan’ and ‘anti-Bhutto’ slogans. Bilawal addressed party workers in Multan region of western Punjab in Pakistan on Friday when he made his controversial comment that he would take back Kashmir and would not leave a single inch of which belonged to Pakistan. New Delhi, Sep 22 (ANI): ISRO on Monday successfully test fired the main liquid engine of the India’s Mars Orbiter Mission which was dormant from 10 months. Scientist Amitabh Pandey commenting on the success of the fire test said that since the engine was dormant, it needs to be tested so that it can be successfully used on 24th for entering the mars orbit. The road has been witnessing heavy traffic ever since it was opened. Residents of Buffliaz, heaved a sigh of relief after the Mughal Road, which is crucial for connectivity to Kashmir, opened up. Vehicles carrying relief material for Kashmir flood victims and other necessary items have been passing through this road which offers the shortest route to Kashmir. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Commanding Officer, Pankaj Kapur, told reporters that the connectivity to Poonch has been opened from both sides, including Mughal Road and Rajouri on a war footing. Lohardaga, Sep 22 (ANI): Hundreds of tribal women in a village of Lohardaga district of Jharkhand launched an anti liquor campaign on Monday to make their village hooch free. The women went on a rampage to destroy material used to produce country-made liquor in the villages. A tribal anti liquor activist, Malti Devi said that the campaign has been launched to make the state addiction free. Earlier, in a similar movement in 1991, women from the villages of Andhra Pradesh addressed the growing alcohol dependency among men and the consequent domestic abuse and squandered household income by staging protests aimed at forcing out local liquor traders.
