In an audio message released on Twitter, the Islamic State has asked its supporters to kill American, Australian, French and Canadian citizens as an act of revenge against their respective governments for supporting the war against the militant group in Iraq.

The 42-minute long audio clip urged ISIS supporters to kill civilians or military personnel of the member nations of the US-led coalition against the Sunni extremist group.

In the audio message, an ISIS spokesperson, who identifies himself as Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, urged the group's supporters to kill "in any manner or way however it may be".

"If you can kill a disbelieving American or European - especially the spiteful and filthy French - or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State... kill him in any manner or way however it may be," al-Adnani can be heard saying.

"Do not consult with anyone and do not seek anyone's advice. Whether they are civilian or military, the same ruling applies," he added.

The audio message has the tone of a fatwa - a religious decree - which is a binding order for supporters.

The widely shared threat has come only days after the arrest of 15 Islamic State supporters for planning attacks, including a public beheading, in Australia.

A Daily Mail report on the threat noted that the Islamic State was particularly angry with France, as the nation's forces killed dozens of ISIS fighters in Iraq last week through airstrikes.

In the meantime, Canadian Prime Minister Jason MacDonald reiterated that his country will continue to support the coalition as ISIS is a global threat.

"ISIS represents a threat not just to stability in the Middle East, but to global security," CBC News quoted MacDonald.

"We will continue to work with allies to push back against this threat. Like our allies we will not be cowed by threats while innocent children, women, men and religious minorities live in fear of these terrorists," the PM added.

Meanwhile, ISIS spokesperson al-Adnani also hit out at US President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry.

"Obama, the mule of the Jews, suddenly became a sheikh, mufti, and an Islamic preacher, warning the people and preaching in defense of Islam, claiming that the Islamic State has nothing to do with Islam," al-Adnani pointed out.

Addressing Kerry as "the uncircumcised old geezer", the militant said: "[He].suddenly became an Islamic jurist, issuing a verdict to the people that the Islamic State was distorting Islam, that what it was doing was against Islamic teachings, and that the Islamic State was an enemy of Islam."
