New Delhi, July 11 (ANI): After India asked the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to vacate its government bungalow in Delhi, Defence Expert Uday Bhaskar said that the UN Military Observers has lost their relevance in the nation. He said that the decision by the government is positive and was long overdue. The UN has said that it will have implications on the Kashmir dispute. While India's stand is that UNMOGIP's role has been overtaken by the Simla Agreement and the consequent establishment of the Line of Control.

Uruguay's Luis Suarez loses appeal against biting ban by FIFA

Brazil, July 11 (ANI): Uruguay forward Luis Suarez lost his appeal against a nine-match ban from competitive internationals and a four-month suspension from all soccer activities for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match, FIFA said. FIFA head of media, Delia Fischer confirmed that Suarez and the Uruguayan FA (AUF) had been informed of the decision. Fischer said that Suarez can still appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Meanwhile, Ray Whelan, the chief executive of the hospitality firm Match, has been questioned by Brazilian police in connection with VIP ticket 'scalping' at the World Cup.

Srinagar, July 11 (ANI): Taking a plunge, Kashmiri girls are all set to prove their mettle in the game of soccer as the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil has gripped the youth across the globe. Girls under 19 in Srinagar participated in the open soccer tournament, organised by football association of the region. This is for the very first time that a football tournament is being organised exclusively for college girls of the region in a bid to expose them to the international standards of playing the game. Girl players said they have been working hard during the practice sessions to break the supremacy of boys in the sport of football.

N Chandrababu Naidu discuss business relations with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister

Hyderabad, July 11 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister GL Peiris to improve ties and discuss business relations between the two. Peiris is on a three-day visit to India to hold high-level bilateral discussions. Talking to the media persons, Naidu said that the neighbouring country has shown willingness to invest in the state. Peiris is also scheduled to hold parleys with Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj during his visit.

US President Obama looking forward to meeting PM Modi: US Deputy Secretary of State

New Delhi, July 11 (ANI): After his meeting with India's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi, US Deputy Secretary of State, William J. Burns said that US President Barack Obama looks forward to PM Narendra Modi's visit to the White House in September for a spur in economic growth. Burns met Jaitley, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to enhance trade, energy and security cooperation between New Delhi and Washington. Legendary actress Zohra Sehgal dies at 102

New Delhi, July 11 (ANI): Legendary actress Zohra Sehgal, who essayed character roles with aplomb in a career spanning both theatre and cinema, died on Thursday at the age of 102. A Padma Vibhushan awardee, Sehgal breathed her last at Max hospital in Delhi around 4:30pm. Sehgal, unwell for last three-four days, died of cardiac arrest. The veteran actress would be cremated today at 11am at the Lodhi Road crematorium. The news came to light by historian Irfan Habib who tweeted, "Just confirmed that Zohra Aapa is no more..." Sehgal started her career as a dancer with Uday Shankar in 1935. She had appeared in many Bollywood films as a character actor as well as in English language films besides television series and plays.

Determined to bring down consumer inflation: Raghuram Rajan

Chennai, July 11 (ANI): Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan said that he was determined to ease consumer inflation through a combination of demand and supply management. An RBI panel in January recommended bringing consumer price index (CPI) inflation down to around eight percent by the end of January 2015 and to six percent by the end of the following year. Rajan also noted that the RBI would issue circulars regarding banks' lending for infrastructure projects. The RBI Governor also assured stability in oil price.
