Rescue and Relief operations resumed after rain eased up: NDRF

New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): The DIG of NDRF, JKS Rawat, on Sunday said that rescue and relief operations have been resumed in the flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir after rain eased up. Rawat added that majority people have been rescued from the devastated areas and relief is in full swing. The situation in flood-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir is improving as water level has lowered and relief material is being distributed to the flood ravaged people.

Grenade blast in Assam kills one, injures four

Assam, Sep 14 (ANI): A grenade blast by two unidentified men in Mangaldoi town of Assam killed one and severely injured four others. The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Earlier on Thursday, the security forces had gunned down at least three militants of the United People's Liberation Front (UPLF) in the Hatikhali area of Assam's Dima Hasao District recovering huge cache of arms and ammunitions from them.

Rains halt relief and rescue operations in Srinagar

Srinagar, Sep 14 (ANI): The ongoing relief and rescue operations in the flood hit Srinagar were halted on Sunday due to rainfall. Light rainfall is also expected in the state on Monday. Earlier, choppers dropped relief material in flood affected areas of Rajouri district. So far, over 1,42,000 persons have been rescued by the armed forces and NDRF from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing rescue and relief operations in the flood ravaged state.

New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): A 'pinkathon' was held in Delhi on Sunday to raise awareness about the deadly disease, breast cancer, which claims the lives of millions of women across the world. Man opens fire at police in Firozabad, BSP slams UP govt for weak law and order

New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria on Sunday said that there is complete breakdown of law and order in Uttar Pradesh, referring to the incident in Firozabad where a man opened fire at police. Slamming the UP government, Bhadoria said that the government has failed to fulfill its constitutional obligations and now it should quit from office. Brandishing a gun, a man threatening to kill himself, opened fire at a police team which had come to arrest him in the Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Later the police refused to comment on the incident.

New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): MET Department Scientist Charan Singh, on Sunday, said that light and moderate rains may be expected in parts of Srinagar and Jammu respectively. He also said that the weather is cloudy as effected from Pakistan's weather condition but there is no need to panic as the flood situation will not be worsened by rains. Islamic State releases video showing beheading of British hostage

New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): Islamic State militants fighting in Iraq and Syria released video purportedly showing the beheading of British aid worker David Haines. The images are consistent with that of the filmed executions of two American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff. British Prime Minister David Cameron said the murder was an act of pure evil and vowed to bring his killers to justice however long it takes. Haines, a 44-year-old from Perth in Scotland, was kidnapped last year while working for a French AID agency.

Kashmir evacuees reunite with their families back home

Faizabad/ Bhopal/ New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): A number of evacuees returned safely back home and reunite with their families and loved ones while Sikh temples in Delhi send packed food items prepared in the community kitchen to victims of flood-ravaged Kashmir. The pilgrims who returned gave credit to the Indian army and Modi government for their safe rescue. The pilgrims were then airlifted from helipad at Governor's house to the airport in helicopters, from where they were flown to their destinations. The rescue operations continue on war-footing to pull out the victims and provide relief materials to those still stranded in the floods.

Narcotics officials seize heroin worth over 0.6 billion in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): New Delhi's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized a large cache of fine quality heroin worth over Rupees 0.6 billion and arrested an Afghan national along with two Indians for allegedly smuggling the drugs. The Afghan national along with two Indians have been arrested for allegedly smuggling in 31 kilograms of fine quality heroin concealed in raisin boxes which was to be sold in a famous dry fruits market in Delhi. Officials said a tip-off led sleuths of the Delhi zone of the NCB to a cold storage in Kundli in Haryana's Sonepat district. Officials said the raisins consignment, imported from Afghanistan, was destined to be delivered in the famous 'Khari Baoli' dry fruits market in Chandni Chowk area of New Delhi and the high quality heroin, sourced from the same country, was being sent under cover.

Jitendra Singh takes the aerial survey of flooded Kashmir

Sep 14 (ANI): Minister of State in prime minister's office (PMO) Jitendra Singh took an aerial survey of devastated Kashmir valley submerged in flood waters with many people still trapped atop their homes, while thousands crowded in relief camps. Both the Indian and Pakistan sides of the disputed Himalayan territory have been hit by extensive flooding since the Jhelum River, swollen by unusually heavy rain, surged last week. Meanwhile, Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, also visited Poonch district and surveyed the areas worst hit. He also inspected the hospital and took stalk of the situation.
