Students union demand creation of Bodoland

Guwahati, Feb 24 (ANI): Leaders of All Bodo Students Union along with National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Progressive), Bodoland Joint Action Committee and United Democratic People's Front demanded for creation of new state of Bodoland. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati student leaders said that the government was ignoring the demands for creation of new state since a long time now. President of All Bodo Students Union, Pramod Boro, said government never considered northeast as its own.

G K Vasan asks Tamil Nadu to review its decision to release Rajiv Gandhi killers

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Shipping Minister, G K Vasan asked Tamil Nadu to review its decision to release assassins of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayaram Jayalalithaa, plans to release the seven convicts in the killing of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi after the Supreme Court commuted death sentences of three to life imprisonment because of an 11-year delay in deciding on their petitions for mercy. However, Supreme Court has stayed their release.

Dalit leader Udit Raj to join BJP

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Senior Dalit leader Udit Raj will join BJP on Monday. Udit Raj, who is the head of the National Confederation of SCs /STs, said that he has talked to BJP on issues related to role of Dalits in governance and running the country, and only after that he decided to join the party. Raj is also expected to contest Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh. The BJP is hoping to use his support base within the dalit community to counter BSP chief Mayawati's influence in the state.

Centre Likely to Delay Appointment of New CM to AP

LJP to tie up with BJP, politicos remain speculative

New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): With the possibility of a tie up between Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and BJP as Paswan's son Chirag Paswan said that the matter will be decide in two days of time, political parties remained speculative. Huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered from Maoist hotbed

Giridih, Feb 23 (ANI): Police busted a Maoist operation in red corridor of Giridih district in Jharkhand and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition. The district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a special joint operation from February 18 to February 22 to look out for any Maoist activity in the nearby hills. The team raided a bunker of the Maoists located over the area’s highest hill, forcing the latter to flee from the spot. Police seized 200 detonators, rifles, material used to make bombs, four belts, six uniforms, axes to cut through iron, tear gas grenades, Chinese grenades and a drill machine.

Maoists attack police station in Red corridor, kill one

Gaya, Feb 23 (ANI): Maoists attack district police station in ‘red corridor’ region, after a fierce gunbattle killing one cab driver and setting two trucks ablaze in Gaya city of Bihar. The cross-firing between red rebels and police started at around 11 pm at night and went on for a couple of hours. Kumar said that the number of Maoists who carried on the operation could not be estimated as the sudden attack came in the dead of the night. They tried to barge in the police station, but the counter attack by the security officials failed their attempts. A taxi driver, who was on a daily commute with a family from Odisha to Aurangabad, became victim of the rebel’s reckless violence.

Worlds oldest man credits simple diet for his long life

Korba, Feb 23 (ANI): Born in 1896, world’s oldest man, 118-year- old Premsai Patel, native of a remote village, attributed his long, healthy life to fresh green vegetables, pulses and a strict vegetarian diet. Patel, A retired government teacher, lives in Korba district of Chhattisgarh where he starts each day by reciting verses from the sacred Hindu scripture ‘Ramcharitmanas’ which he says ‘purifies one’s body and the soul’. Patel, lives with in a big joint family of sons, daughters- in- law and their children. Born in 1896, Patel is a living testimony of the heydays of Indian kings and British rule. A woman relative, Ghana Bai, said that Patel believes in living a happy and contented life and therefore, eats and drinks simple food without suffering the perils of old age.
