Canadian Governor General seeks to bolster business, academic ties with India

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Canadian Governor General, David Johnston said on Monday that he sought to provide greater impetus to bilateral ties with India including fresh initiatives in business, entrepreneurship and education. Johnston, who is on a week-long visit to India from February 22 to March 2, is accompanied by Canadian lawmakers and delegates aiming to enhance business, academic, cultural and people-to-people ties with their Indian counterparts. Hailing strong relations between India and Canada, Johnston said that the theme of his visit was education, innovation, entrepreneurship.

Mulayam aborts AMU trip, politicos react

Lucknow/ New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has cancelled his visit to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) after protests against the UP government's handling of the Muzaffarnagar riots. Yadav was to address a seminar on the campus on Monday. There were protests on the campus by a section of teachers after Yadav was invited to the seminar organised by Sir Syed Movement.The reason for the cancellation was said to be the model code of conduct. Meanwhile, the BJP and Congress supported the protests against Mulayam's visit and said that this was expected as Muslim community was deeply hurt by the way the Samajwadi party handled the Muzaffarnagar riots. Rajya Sabha MP Mohammad Adeeb too supported the protests.

Students union demand creation of Bodoland

G K Vasan asks Tamil Nadu to review its decision to release Rajiv Gandhi killers

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Shipping Minister, G K Vasan asked Tamil Nadu to review its decision to release assassins of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayaram Jayalalithaa, plans to release the seven convicts in the killing of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi after the Supreme Court commuted death sentences of three to life imprisonment because of an 11-year delay in deciding on their petitions for mercy. However, Supreme Court has stayed their release.

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Senior Dalit leader Udit Raj will join BJP on Monday. Udit Raj, who is the head of the National Confederation of SCs /STs, said that he has talked to BJP on issues related to role of Dalits in governance and running the country, and only after that he decided to join the party.
