Gen (Retd) AK Choudhary says UPA feared coup in 2012, Politicos react

New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): Retired Lt-Gen AK Choudhary, who was Director General of Military Operations in 2012, has told that the "highest levels" of the UPA government were indeed spooked by the unexpected movement of troops under former Army chief General VK Singh's command. Speaking on the same, Shiv Sena Leader Sanjay Raut on Friday said that Army is a disciplinary force and there should be secrecy on such issues and retired officers should be careful before speaking. Meanwhile, JD (U) Leader Sabir Ali said that if there is a weak government in power, powerful people of military try to seize the power.

We have done justice to both Telangana & Seemandhra: Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Friday said that the BJP has done justice to both Telangana and Seemandhra region and if the party comes in power, further justice will be done. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill or the Telangana Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday in the face of noisy protests. The Bill was passed without any change as the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party did not press for any of the amendments moved by it following an assurance from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over several issues, including a special package to the Seemandhra region for five years. The stalemate over the Bill ended after hectic negotiations between the Congress and the BJP.

India, Bangladesh demarcate disputed border

Agartala, Feb 21 (ANI): India, Bangladesh officials demarcated the disputed border in Tripura after four days of meticulous work and expressed satisfaction. The teams from both the countries visited the bordering areas of Kashba, Kaiyardepha and Akhaura and located 250 new subsidiary border pillars, which have been newly constructed. The demarcation would help guards in manning the border, expedite various construction activities such as fencing and lighting and making of water pump houses. Director General of Bangladesh Department of Land Record and Survey (DLRS), Mohammed Abdul Mannan, said that his team had carried out the mandate given by two governments. Director of Survey of India, N R Biswal, said that confusion over land ownership would end after the demarcation.

Government holds tripartite talks with United Naga Council in Manipur

Manipur, Feb 21 (ANI): The 7th round of tripartite talks between the United Naga Council, Central Government and Manipur Government over the demand for an alternative arrangement for the Nagas of Manipur was held recently at Senapati district headquarters. The Centre's team was headed by joint secretary (Northeast) Shambhu Singh while UNC's 10-member delegation was led by its President L Adani. The State Government delegation included Rural Development Minister Francis Ngajokpa and Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu. The United Naga Council is the apex body of the Nagas in Manipur and has been demanding an alternative arrangement beyond the control of the Manipur government for the Nagas in the state.
