Srinagar, Uri Feb 23 (ANI): The beefed up vigil and strict measures taken by security forces have succeeded in controlling infiltration by militants in Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior Army officer. Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh said that elimination of top militants has made a major difference to their activities in the valley. Earlier, a huge cache was recovered by a joint team of army during a search operation launched in the Kamal Kote area of Uri town in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the army denied that the recovery of these weapons had anything to do with a fresh infiltration. Feb 23, 2014

Bijnor, Feb 23 (ANI): After sitting on a hunger strike for days against police's failure to arrest the four men who allegedly gang raped her, an 18-year-old girl attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. The victim’s mother alleged that her daughter was forced to take this extreme step as no action was taken after the complaint was filed with the police.
