Power of democracy prevails over gun: Modi

Gumla, March 27 (ANI): Acknowledging the crowd at his rally, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Thursday said that it showed that the power of democracy still prevails over the gun. Recalling Mahatma Gandhi, Modi appealed to the Maoists to drop their weapons and shun the path of violence, saying the country needs development more than violence and bloodshed. He said that Jharkhand was given by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and added that many Congress governments have come and gone, but they have never acknowledged the presence of tribals in the country.

Haryana govt plane catches fire, landed on emergency

Chandigarh, March 27 (ANI): Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia had a miraculous escape on Thursday when his plane caught fire at the Chandigarh airport, said officials. Pahadia was immediately taken out of the aircraft and sent to PGI hospital for check up. Declared safe and not harmed, he was safely sent back to the Governor House. The plane was thereafter landed on the Chandigarh airport on emergency basis.

SC demands Gavaskar to be BCCI interim president & Srinivasan removed

New Delhi, March 27 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday proposed the name of Sunil Gavaskar as interim BCCI President replacing N Srinivasan till it gives the final verdict in the IPL Spot-fixing case. Two suspected terrorists planning to target Modi arrested in UP

Lucknow, March 27 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) has confirmed the arrest of two suspected terrorists believed to be from Pakistan, and also recovered a huge cache of weapons from them in Gorakhpur. The suspected terrorists were part of a terror module which was planning to target senior political leaders, including BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, during campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls. Thousands of Bangladeshis sing National anthem on Independence day, attempt world record

Dhaka, March 27 (ANI): More than 250,000 Bangladeshis sang the national anthem in chorus to set a new world record on March 26 coinciding with the 43rd Independence Day celebrations. The event which was aimed at getting Bangladesh in the Guinness Book of World Records also saw the participation of Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina who sang with the 1971 Liberation War veterans and her cabinet colleagues. Police arrest spy, seize huge cache of drugs in Amritsar

Amritsar, March 27 (ANI): At the tip off intelligence police in Punjab arrested a spy while in a separate incident paramilitary seize a huge cache of drugs coming from neighbouring Pakistan. In an apparent case of espionage, State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) of Police in Amritsar arrested a resident, who was an army clerk, Lovedeep Singh, for providing sensitive information to the Pakistan security agencies. Official of the State Special Operations Cell, Harvinder Singh, said that Lovedeep Singh was providing restricted army documents, sketches and other vital information to the Pakistani agencies. In a separate incident, BSF officials recovered seven kilograms of suspected heroine from intruders trying to get into Indian Territory from Pakistan side.
