Two girls fed up of stalking by rogue boys commit suicide in Rohtak

Rohtak, Aug 27 (ANI): Upset over stalking by a group of youths, two teenage girls of class XI and XII respectively committed suicide by consuming poison laced fruit juice at their coaching centre in Rohtak city of Haryana. The Rohtak police, who have initiated an investigation, recovered two suicide notes that narrated the trauma underwent by the two girls and arrested one of the accused. Meanwhile, father of victim Sukhbir Singh said that his daughter was admitted to the hospital following which she died and demanded stern action against the accused. The girls have mentioned an incomplete bike number- 2939- in the suicide note and have warned that more girls would commit suicide if the incidents of eve-teasing and stalking were not curbed.

Women Rights Activists demand death penalty for guilty in Rohtak incident

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): Women Rights Activists on Wednesday condemned the incident in Rohtak where two girls were forced to commit suicide after being stalked and demanded death penalty for the guilty. Women Rights Activist Abha Singh said that the guilty should be strictly punished with death penalty under IPC. Ranjana Kumari stated that law and order in the country should be made strict in terms of giving security to women.

Received request for flag meeting from Pakistan, trying to resolve issue: BSF

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): As India witnessed a break in the continuous ceasefire violation by Pakistan on Wednesday, BSF Director General DK Pathak said that they have received a request of flag meeting by Pakistan. Pathak said that they are trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible. This came after Pakistan said no to India's initiation for flag meeting with its neighbour for about 16 times. Pathak said that he hoped that the meeting takes place and that he would ask the reason behind such ceasefire by Pakistan.

Gas leak in abandoned factory in Asansol kills 2 women, leaves over 30 ill

Asansol, Aug 27 (ANI): Two women died and over 30 others were reported sick after inhaling a poisonous gas that leaked from a closed factory in West Bengal. Among the people hospitalised, a child was also critically affected due to the leakage which took place at the abandoned godown of the factory in Asansol city on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Biswajit Ghosh said they have not been able to identify the source of the gas yet as investigation is in process. Gas emanating from the long time closed factory caused severe eye and nose burning and also led to breathing problems within few minutes for the people residing in the nearby area. A fire official in-charge, Samim Yadav said the stinging smell made even the fire officials sick.

Tara Sahdeo case: Husband arrested for trying to convert wife's religion

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): Ranjit Kohli alias Rakibul Hussain, the accused husband of Tara Sahdeo case, was arrested on Tuesday night in a joint operation of Delhi and Ranchi Police. The police is taking the accused for a medical test and thereafter to the Dwarka court for further proceedings. Tara had alleged that Ranjeet Singh Kohli, beat her and forced her to convert to Islam after they got married in July in her home state of Jharkhand. She claimed that he posed as a Hindu and that she later realized his real name was Rakibul Hussain. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand had investigated Tara's allegations.

Flood in Assam inundates wildlife in Kaziranga National Park

Golaghat, Aug 27 (ANI): Flood water from river Brahmaputra inundated major parts of a wildlife sanctuary, Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and rose to danger level in many areas of Golaghat district of Assam. The park authorities have strengthened security as poachers take advantage of the floods to kill animals, particularly one-horned rhinos which, during the floods, stray outside the park. The rhinos and other animals normally go towards the Karbi Anglong Hills looking for dry, higher grounds. The water level has almost inundated the entire parkland causing most of the wild animals to stray over Karbi Hills, making their lives vulnerable to poachers and speeding vehicles.

Lucknow, Aug 27 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, stirred another controversy on Wednesday by saying Muslims in India are living in fear. Khan was addressing a gathering of Hajj pilgrims in Lucknow city of Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav flagged off the first batch of Hajj pilgrims from the state. Wishing the pilgrims a safe journey, Khan expressed concern over their well-being, saying he hopes and prays no one is harmed by 'love jihad'. Khan also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he does not want peace and harmony in the country. Meanwhile, Khan also blamed the central government for the riots in northern cities of Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar. Khan's statement came on the anniversary of the Muzaffarnagar riots where more than 62 people were killed and thousands displaced after killing of two brothers in Kaval village on August 27, 2013. He also said that he could be hurt after his remarks go viral.

Former Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan receives guard of honour

Mumbai, Aug 27 (ANI): Former Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan received farewell by state cabinet staffs and ministers at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai on Wednesday. Sankaranarayanan also received guard of honour during the event. Present at the occasion were ministers and state Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan who bid farewell to the former governor. Sankaranarayanan resigned soon after he was transferred to Mizoram by the NDA government for his remaining tenure, which had to end in 2017.
