BJP blamed for simmering unrest in riot affected areas of UP

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 28 (ANI): Chief of Bharatiya Kisan (Indian Farmers) Union, Naresh Tikait, accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for failing to control unrest in Muzzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh even after one year of the riots between two communities that claimed immense loss of life and property. The clashes triggered on August 27, 2013 when a Muslim youth was stabbed to death by two Hindu youths after being accused of sexually harassing their sister. A Muslim mob stoned the two Hindus to death. At least 45 people were killed and hundreds were forced to flee their homes in the ensuing riots. On Wednesday, Tikait accused the BJP and claimed that riots might trigger again because of the simmering discontent among the victims who had not been compensated to move ahead in life. The violence which forced authorities to deploy the army and paramilitary forces, impose curfews and revoke gun licences in places where arms are plentiful - has ebbed, but many displaced Muslims refuse to return home, fearing more bloodshed.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana would fight poverty in the country: Modi

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while launching the ambitious 'Pradhanmantri Jan Dhan Yojana, said that the scheme will fight poverty in the country. He added that the scheme would help India to get rid of 'financial untouchability'. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is an ambitious scheme, under which the government would provide every household with a bank account and an insurance cover. Under the banking scheme, account holders would get a debit card and accident insurance cover of up to 100,000 rupees ($1,654). They would also get an overdraft facility of up to 5,000 Indian rupees. The first phase of the mission, starting this month, would end in August next year. The second phase will start from 2015 till 2018, covering aspects such as micro insurance and pension schemes like 'Swavalamban'.

Pakistan should never be forgiven for ceasefire violations: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Jammu and Kashmir, Aug 28 (ANI): Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, said on Thursday Pakistan should never be forgiven for continuous ceasefire violations in Kashmir border region and causing suffering to poor people after visiting the victims. Pakistani Rangers fired on personnel of India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) hours after holding meeting with their Indian counterparts in Pargwal sector of northern state of Jammu and Kashmir. Azad also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly being silent on the issue.

Aamir Khans Satyamev Jayate' is back!

Mumbai, August 28 (ANI): Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is all set to launch the third season of his popular talk show, 'Satyamev Jayate'. He made this announcement on Wednesday in India’s showbiz capital Mumbai recently. The new season will go on air on 21st September and will consist of six episodes. The last two seasons of the show, which revolved around social issues like female foeticide, dowry, domestic violence and sexual abuse, received an overwhelming response from viewers. He said that his team tries to bring a change in society from the very grassroots. 'Satyamev Jayate', was first launched in May 2012 and has transformed Aamir's public image from an actor to crusader.

BSE closes points 77.96 up on August 28

New Delhi, August 28 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 77.96 points up to stand at 26,638.11. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 17.25 points up to stand at 7,953.30. NATIONAL ALUMINIUM CO LTD. and TATA COMMUNICATIONS LTD were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 8.37% and 5.08% along with GUJARAT MINERAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION LTD. and BHEL with an increase of 4.46% and 4.10% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include BHUSHAN STEEL LTD and IOB with a decrease of 4.97% and 4.80% along with JPPOWER and INDIAN BANK with a decrease of 4.70% and 4.69% at the close of the markets. Breach in embankment submerges villages in Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar, Aug 28 (ANI): Breach of embankment of river Kalyani submerged several villages in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal forcing people to leave for safer places as flood water streamed through hearth and home. The incessant rainfall and flood resulted in loss of property in the villages of Natabari, Chilakhana and Bhuchumari. The overflow of river water also damaged acres of farmland. Similar conditions prevailed in Siliguri town in Darjeeling district of the state which received 150mm rainfall on August 26 which triggered a flood-like situation disrupting normal life.

Resolution on Indo-Pak talks passed in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly

Srinagar, Aug 28 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution on Indo-Pak talks which urges the Central government to resume its talks with the neighbouring nation. The resolution passed unanimously by the Legislative Council via a voice vote says the state government must urge the union government to resume Indo-Pak dialogue to maintain peace in region, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. National Conference leader Devender Singh Rana said that the resolution has been passed unanimously and urges government to take effective steps to resolve violations on LoC, besides taking steps to ensure rehabilitation of victims of LoC firing.

Local police recover landmine and rifle in Lalgarh

Lalgarh, Aug 28 (ANI): Local police in West Bengal recovered a landmine along with a rifle near Lalgarh village in west Midnapur district. Police officials said that it was not clear how the mine had got there. The landmine which was placed near a canal leading to Lalgarh was later defused. The village caught media attention in November 2008 when guerilla Maoists launched an attack on police forces and cadres of the political party, Communist Party of India -Marxist (CPI-M). In 2009, Operation Lalgarh was launched by security forces to smoke out the Maoists from the region.

Law will take its course: Sadananda Gowda on his son's case

Kochi, Aug 28 (ANI): Union Minister of Railways, Sadananda Gowda, on Thursday reacted to the controversy sparked against his son Karthik Gowda. A case has been registered against Karthik Gowda by a woman, claiming to be his wife, for not accepting him and getting married to another woman. Sadananda Gowda said he will be the last person to interfere in this case legally.
