Delhi High Court restores former IPL Chief Lalit Modi's passport, supporters celebrate

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Wednesday restored former IPL Chief Lalit Modi's passport which was revoked in 2010 after his suspension. His lawyer said that it was a matter of great happiness and Modi will be back to India from England soon. He added that this achievement will bring a new turn in the events going on in BCCI.

BSE closes points 117.34 up on August 27

New Delhi, August 27 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 117.34 points up to stand at 26,560.15. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 31.30 points up to stand at 7,936.05. BEL and HAVELLS were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 20.00% and 8.60% along with TORRENT POWER LTD. and JAIN IRRIGATION SYSTEMS LTD. with an increase of 6.96% and 6.03% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include UCO BANK and BHUSHAN STEEL LTD. with a decrease of 7.98% and 4.99% along with DLF and ADANIPORTS with a decrease of 4.33% and 3.32% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 132.99 points at 17,243.95 while the banking sector is up 90.87 points at 17,986.64 and the reality sector is down 24.69 points at 1,760.34. The Indian currency is up 0.05% at Rs 60.46 per dollar.

Politicos react as report blames former UPA govt for coal scam

New Delhi/Lucknow, Aug 27 (ANI): A follow up report by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India dealing with illegalities in coal scam got mixed reviews from politicians on Wednesday as it blamed the previous UPA government for tampering with the recommendations made by a screening committee in 2007 for allocation of coal blocks. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that for sixteen long years there were many Prime Ministers who allocated coal blocks, seeing that only a certain individual cannot be blamed. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that Manmohan Singh's government will be accountable for the mistakes it has made for coming ten years as well. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader, Naresh Agarwal, said that based on a decision taken by the Prime Minister one cannot classify him as the sole reason for the scam.

Family performs last rites of martyr Dhananjay Kumar in Bihar

Maner, Aug 27 (ANI): The last rites of Martyr Lance Naik Dhananjay Kumar took place at his hometown in Maner district of Bihar with full respect on Wednesday. Kumar was killed in an encounter with militants in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir and his body reached Patna late on Tuesday. Mourning on his death, his father said that he is not grieved on his son's death and that Kumar was son of Mother India. He also appeled the central government to take revenge from Pakistan. His relatives too said that Kumar's family should get compensation on the loss.

Authorities send home 11 Bangladeshi boys lured to India by better job prospects

South Dinajpur, Aug 27 (ANI): Eleven Bangladeshi boys who came to India in search of better job prospects were sent back to their home country by the immigration department of West Bengal. The children who illegally entered the Indian territory recently were later arrested by police officials of South Dinajpur district of the state. A non government organisation (NGO), Child Line, rescued the children. The children were reunited with their families in the presence of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF).

BJP terms SC's verdict on appointment of tainted ministers a wise decision

New Delhi/ Bangalore, Aug 27 (ANI): The BJP on Wednesday said that the Supreme Court was wise in not laying down the law on disqualification of ministers. The party also said that Prime Minster Narendra Modi has already talked about this. The court was hearing a plea on whether ministers with criminal cases against them can continue to be a part of the government. A five bench judge headed by Chief Justice of India R. M. Lodha delivered the verdict saying that it was the prerogative of the prime minister and chief ministers to do so. According to certain estimates, more than thirty percent of the ministers in the present government have a criminal background.

2 girls forced to commit suicide in Rohtak, Politicos condemn

Two girls fed up of stalking by rogue boys commit suicide in Rohtak

Rohtak, Aug 27 (ANI): Upset over stalking by a group of youths, two teenage girls of class XI and XII respectively committed suicide by consuming poison laced fruit juice at their coaching centre in Rohtak city of Haryana. The Rohtak police, who have initiated an investigation, recovered two suicide notes that narrated the trauma underwent by the two girls and arrested one of the accused. Meanwhile, father of victim Sukhbir Singh said that his daughter was admitted to the hospital following which she died and demanded stern action against the accused. The girls have mentioned an incomplete bike number- 2939- in the suicide note and have warned that more girls would commit suicide if the incidents of eve-teasing and stalking were not curbed.

Women Rights Activists demand death penalty for guilty in Rohtak incident

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): Women Rights Activists on Wednesday condemned the incident in Rohtak where two girls were forced to commit suicide after being stalked and demanded death penalty for the guilty. Women Rights Activist Abha Singh said that the guilty should be strictly punished with death penalty under IPC.
