Women Activists condemn TMC MLA Deepak Haldar's rape remark

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): Women activists, on Thursday, condemned the controversial rape remark by TMC MLA Deepak Haldar. Haldar had said in his speech on Wednesday that as long as Earth is there, rapes will continue to happen. Human Rights Activist Teesta Setalvad said that such statements encourage criminals which should not happen. NCW member Shamina Shafiq said that such statements from political leaders, shows the patriarchal mindset of leaders who run the nation and it is condemnable.

South 24 Parganas, Aug 28 (ANI): Provoking a howl of protests in Bengal, a Trinamool Congress MLA on Thursday said rapes will continue to occur as long as the Earth exists. "There was rape earlier, there is rape today. As long as the Earth exists, there will be rape," said the Trinamool legislator Deepak Haldar. Haldar had made the comments at a public meeting in his constituency on Wednesday evening. Later, he said his intent was to raise awareness. The comments have received severe condemnation from various political leaders and women activists.

Yogi Adityanath on campaigning in UP by polls

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): Controversial BJP MP Yogi Adityanath is among three BJP leaders who would be campaigning for the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh. Adityanath, who is currently facing charges of inciting communal tension in Gorakhpur in 2007, was handed over the charge by party chief Amit Shah. The others are UP veteran and union minister Kalraj Mishra and the party's state unit chief Laxmikant Bajpayee. Taking a dig at the Samajwadi Party, the MP from Gorakhpur said that the SP always wants to create controversy out of nothing but fails and their comments against him were also made with the same intention.

Next CM of Haryana will be from BJP: Shahnawaz Hussain

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): Ahead of the Assembly elections in the state, Kuldeep Bishnoi-led Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC-BL) on Thursday snapped its ties with BJP, putting an end to the prolonged tussle between the two parties which have been in an alliance for three years now. HJC breaks alliance with BJP, says it is a cheater party

Air India website crashes as it offers 'tickets for Rs 100'

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): Soon after Air India announced an astonishing Rs 100 fare offer to celebrate Air India Day, the national carrier's website, where tickets were being sold exclusively, crashed. Some users who tried to go to the website got a 'Service unavailable' message. For others, the page would not load. Air India had announced that it will sell tickets for Rs 100 (taxes extra) for five days from Wednesday — which it will celebrate as Air India Day to commemorate the merger of erstwhile Indian Airlines and Air India in 2007.

Woman claims of holding leopard by its ears before killing it

Srinagar, Aug 28 (ANI): The woman, who killed a leopard with a sickle, said she held the animal with its ears and made it fall on the ground. Kamla Devi survived half an hour fight with the leopard when the animal attacked her at a village in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Devi fractured both her hands and sustained scratches and swellings, was critical and getting treated at Srinagar base hospital. Devi’s skull received 50 stitches. Representatives of local women's organisation are of opinion that a courageous woman like Devi should be awarded by the State government.
