Woman claims of holding leopard by its ears before killing it

Srinagar, Aug 28 (ANI): The woman, who killed a leopard with a sickle, said she held the animal with its ears and made it fall on the ground. Kamla Devi survived half an hour fight with the leopard when the animal attacked her at a village in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Devi fractured both her hands and sustained scratches and swellings, was critical and getting treated at Srinagar base hospital. Devi’s skull received 50 stitches. Representatives of local women's organisation are of opinion that a courageous woman like Devi should be awarded by the State government.

Case registered against Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda's son, politicos demand thorough probe

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): A Bangalore based model has filed a case against Karthik Gowda, son of Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda, under section 420, 376 and 406 (charges relating to cheating and dishonesty) of the Indian Penal Code. The model claims that she got married to Karthik Gowda on June 5, 2014 after meeting him on May 8, 2014. The model also said that she wanted his family to accept her as their daughter-in-law. Gowda, however, refuted the allegations saying that since the news came right after his son Karthik Gowda’s engagement, it raises suspicion. Meanwhile, political leaders said that a thorough investigation should be done in the case.

After flag meet, Pak again violates ceasefire

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): A few hours after a flag meet took place between India and Pakistan’s Border Security forces, Pakistan again violated the ceasefire in Akhnoor district of Jammu and Kashmir. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that the government should take immediate steps to ensure peace along the border. NCP leader Tariq Anwar said that the government should continue to hold talks with Pakistan and try to solve the situation peacefully. BJP leader Nalin Kohli said that the government is trying to ensure peace along the border and our army will leave no stone unturned to fight back and save the civilians.

Kannada actress claims to be wife of Railway Minister Gowda's son, asks family to accept her

Bangalore, Aug 28 (ANI): A Kannada actress has claimed that she is married to Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda's son Karthik and demanded that the Minister's family accept her as their daughter-in-law. Talking to mediapersons in Bangalore, the woman named Maithreya said that she met Karthik while her family was looking for a groom and on 05 June 2014 they both tied the knot. Maithreya further claimed that they both knew each other since 8 May 2014 and became very good friends, following which Karthik married her. Meanwhile, a case of rape was registered against Karthik. The case has been booked against Karthik under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Scorching heat wave sweeps through Uttar Pradesh

Kanpur/Moradabad, Aug 28 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh is reeling under scorching heat wave that is unusual in the month of August. Meanwhile irregular power cuts have added to the woes of people. In Kanpur people said that they had never experienced such hot weather conditions in the month of August before. Irked by the irregular power supply, a resident Alok Srivastav said that lack of rains this year had lead to such extreme weather conditions. The Weather department said one of the causes of heat wave was lack of rains in north India. Meanwhile in Moradabad, people hit the streets demanding electricity. Protesters held burning torches at night and shouting slogans against the state government for their inaction.

UK Deputy PM inaugurates business centre in Bangalore to foster economic ties

Bangalore, Aug 28 (ANI): United Kingdom's Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, inaugurated a branch of UK India Business Council (UKIBC), TechHub, a non-profit organisation, in IT hub of Bangalore to foster trade relations between the two nations. Clegg is on a mission to bolster trade and strategic ties with former colony India. The newly-inaugurated TechHub is a workspace for entrepreneurs and promises to support 1,000 start-ups within the next three years. During the inaugural speech, Clegg said that Bangalore would be the future window to global endeavours in technology and business.

Avid readers throng to National Book Fair in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 27 (ANI): The National book fair held in the 'Kashmir Haat' ground in Srinagar city of Kashmir which attracted thousands of book lovers, promises to make future generations of the valley aware of the history, culture and heritage of the country. The biggest national book fair has been organised by the National Book Trust (NBT) in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy for Art, Culture and Languages, Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Associations in India, National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) and District Administration Srinagar. Organiser of the Book Fair, Vijender Kumar, said that the fair has received a great response. The fair-cum-exhibition began on August 23 and will conclude at the end of this month.
