Need evidence to take action against black money account holders, centre taking rigorous steps: Jait

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said that there is a need for evidence and that only revelation of names of the black money account holders is not enough to initiate legal action. The Centre has initiated tax-evasion proceedings against 60 Indian accounts that have allegedly parked black money in foreign accounts, Jaitley said. Jaitley further said the Centre has put in rigorous efforts towards digging black money during the last six to seven months. He said that most of the names revealed in the list today are known to the government. He said that the assessments of 350 account holders have been done and the rest will be completed by March 31. Re-polling in two constituencies of Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): A day before Delhi assembly election results, residents in two constituencies of the national capital had to vote again on Monday due to fault in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). As per media reports, voters in Delhi Cantonment and Rohtas Nagar constituencies were notified about re-polling on Sunday, after election officials found that EVMs still contained the mock votes, which were polled to check the machines. The government has declared a paid holiday in both the constituencies. However, few voters faced inconvenience and said there were no proper arrangements to keep their phones and belongings. Addressing the sixth conference of Ambassadors and High Commissioners in New Delhi, the President recalled the horrific killings of innocent hostages in Syria, the attack on the media in Paris and the tragic killing of school children and their teachers in Peshawar, Pakistan. Singapore President arrives in India for state visit

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam arrived in New Delhi for a four-day-visit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Atleast 13 killed in an accident in Assam

Golaghat, Feb 09 (ANI): At least 13 people were killed in a major road accident in Golaghat district of Assam, when a vehicle carrying 15 passengers rammed into a stationary truck loaded with iron rods. The impact of the accident was so severe that 12 people died on the spot, while another victim succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. Most of the passengers sitting in the front of the vehicle were disfigured beyond recognition. Two survivors, who suffered injuries, were rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. The accident occurred on NH 37, when the passenger vehicle was coming from Dhakuakhana in Dhemaji district. One of the survivors said the vehicle was being driven by attendant while the driver was taking rest. Feb 9, 2015

Khunti, Feb 09 (ANI): A hardcore Maoist surrendered before police in Jharkhand, laying down his arms and ammunition. Rebel Anil Singh gave himself up and also deposited a carbine and a rifle to Director General of Police, Jharkhand, Rajeev Kumar, at a function in Khunti district. Singh was handed over a cheque of rupees 50,000 under government's surrender policy. The rebels have operated for decades across a wide swath of central and eastern India, and grew in strength during recent times in areas where poor, tribal villagers came into conflict with mining companies seeking resources for industrialisation.
