Crude Bomb explodes near Dumdum railway station in Kolkata, reportedly three injured

Dumdum, Jan 10 (ANI): Atleast three people were injured after a crude bomb placed inside a Tiffin box exploded on Saturday near Dumdum Cantonment railway station on the outskirts of Kolkata. According to media reports, the blast took place near platform number 2, where a Tiffin box with a circuit was found. Few cans with explosives have also been found. According to initial reports, the injured were rag-pickers who were sifting through the garbage dump when the bomb went off. Further details are still awaited. Jan 10, 2015

Congress calls for shutdown in Gujarat against 'Vibrant Gujarat Summit'

Ahmedabad, Jan 10 (ANI): Congress party has called for a shutdown on Saturday in Gujarat protesting against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's proposed "Vibrant Gujarat Summit" beginning Sunday. Congress activists have been holding protests at important government installations across the state. Dozens of Congress activists held a protest outside the Income Tax department in Ahmedabad city before they were detained by police. A Congress activist Ketan Rawal said the government was holding the summit to attract investments in the state at a time when it had failed to tackle important issues. The summit, which is an annual event, was the brainchild of Narendra Modi when he ruled the state before becoming prime minister last year. Stringent security measures in place at Indian coasts: Admiral RK Dhowan

Sanjay Dutt's furlough extension request rejected, leaves for Yerwada Prison

Mumbai, Jan 10 (ANI): Bollywood Actor Sanjay Dutt left for Yerawada Jail in Pune on Saturday after Dutt's request for an extension in his furlough was rejected. Dutt said that he has been a law abiding citizen and that there is no favor for him because he is a celebrity. He urged the people to pray for his early release. Dutt had sought 14 days extension after exhausting the two weeks granted to him by jail officials. The decision on his extension plea came after the Mumbai police submitted its report to the Yerwada prison authorities. Dutt is serving 42 months of his five year sentence from May 2013 for illegal possession of arms in a case related to the 1993 serial blasts.
