AIADMK workers hold 'silent protest' in support of Jayalalithaa

Chennai, Oct 4 (ANI): AIADMK workers on Saturday staged a silent hunger protest in Chennai demanding the release of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Jayalalithaa was convicted guilty in the disproportionate assets case and is sentenced to four years of imprisonment. More than 100 AIADMK workers along with seven from DMDK sat near the statue of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran holding placards. AIADMK Chief's supporters feel the verdict was nothing but political vengeance. Meanwhile, her bail plea hearing has been adjourned till October 7 next week. Oct 4, 2014

New Delhi, Oct 4 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Saturday after at least 33 people were killed and many others were injured in stampede that took place at Gandhi Maidan in Patna when people were returning from Dussehra celebrations. BJP leaders Sambit Patra said that the incident is painful and compensations have been announced by the central and the state government. Congress leader Rashid Alvi slammed the state government and said that had the administration taken proper steps, the incident would have not occurred. ISIS releases another video beheading British citizen, UK and US vows to bring justice

New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): Islamic State militants fighting in Iraq and Syria released a video which purported to show the beheading of a man identified as British citizen Alan Henning. The video showed a man in an orange jumpsuit kneeling in a landscape who was identified as Henning. The kneeling man in the video says, "Because of our parliament's decision to attack the Islamic State, I, as a member of the British public, will now pay the price for that decision,". A male voice then says, "The blood of David Haines was on your hands Cameron," in a reference to Britain's prime minister. "Alan Henning will also be slaughtered, but his blood is on the hands of the British parliament." Reacting on the same, Cameron vowed to bring the killers to justice. Oct 4, 2014

Agra, Oct 04 (ANI): A major fire broke out early on Saturday morning in the famed Lohar Gali area of Agra. Over 250 shops were gutted and several residential flats got damaged in the fire that broke out in a famous market in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh. Around eight fire brigade vans were called in to control the blaze that began at around 2:00 AM. Locals also raised the need for calling the military. Eid-al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a Muslim festival which commemorates the obedience of the prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son when ordered to by God. Some civilians sustained injuries while some lost their houses. The entire Gagrian village in the Poonch sector was affected due to firing. Senior Superintendent of Police Shamsher Hussain said there was huge amount of Mortar Shelling and firing was been carried out from both the sides. New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): Indian wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Bajrang arrived in New Delhi on Saturday after bagging gold and silver medal respectively at the 17th Asian Games held in Incheon in South Korea. Dutt outshone Tajikistan's Zalimkhan Yusupov in the men's 65 kg freestyle wrestling match by 1-0, whereas Bajrang had to settle with a silver medal after losing the men's freestyle 61kg final match with 1-3 score to Iran. His compatriot Narsingh Pancham Yadav settled for a bronze in 74kg freestyle. Speaking to mediapersons, Dutt expressed his happiness over the win. SCI launches first shipping service to Myanmar

Chennai, Oct 04 (ANI): India launched its first shipping service to Myanmar connecting both the countries under the concept of 'look east' policy to boost bilateral ties. The shipping corporation of India (SCI) and the ministry of shipping have launched a direct service to Myanmar for the first time with the help of foreign ministry and commerce ministry. The fortnightly service was flagged off at Krishnapatnam Port, one of the fastest growing ports on the East Coast of India, after it sailed from Chennai late Friday. Secretary, Ministry Of Shipping, Vishwapati Trivedi said beyond commercial trade it will strengthen trade relationship between both countries.
