Manjhi resigns as Bihar CM hours before floor test

Patna, Feb 20 (ANI): Jitan Ram Manjhi on Friday stepped down as the Bihar Chief Minister, hours before he was to seek a vote of confidence in the state assembly. Manjhi had earlier met Bihar Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi at the Governor's House. Manjhi was locked in a showdown with former Bihar chief minister and senior JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar, who had handpicked him to take his place last year. The BJP had asked its 87 MLAs to vote in favour of Manjhi today while the JD(U), RJD, Congress and CPI had issued a whip to its legislators to vote against him. New Delhi/ Patna, Feb 20 (ANI): Political leaders on Friday react as Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is to face floor test in Bihar Assembly against JD (U) senior leader Nitish Kumar. JD (U) leader KC Tyagi blames BJP for the political crisis in Bihar and said that Nitish Kumar will prove majority. Party leader Ajay Alok also accused BJP for the situation in the state. RJD leader Manoj Jha also accused the BJP and said that the JD (U) will definitely come to power. Congress leader Premchand Mishra said that the party stands with Nitish Kumar and that BJP is intervening in the internal matters of Bihar. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao, meanwhile, said that Nitish Kumar is the one to create the situation that is prevailing in Bihar. Government says no need to panic even as swine flu toll hits 700 mark

New Delhi, Feb 20 (ANI): Even as India witnessed a steep rise in the number of swine flu cases in recent days, Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth said that there was no need to panic, adding that the government was taking measures to ensure proper treatment to patients. The H1N1 virus has claimed nearly 700 lives in the country and the number of people affected by it has crossed 10,000 mark, say reports. Seth said that delay in treatment was amounting to rising casualties. Seth said that he was in touch with officials to ensure consistent supply of medicines and other medical equipments to government hospitals. He has also directed drug controllers of various states to ensure availability of necessary vaccines, along with guidelines for usage and treatment protocol.
