Pollution level increases in India post Diwali

Mumbai/Nagpur/Raipur /New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): The level of pollutants in the air shot up significantly due to excessive use of fireworks as people across India celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, on Thursday. Bursting of firecrackers added to the air, noise and garbage pollution even as massive awareness drives advocating a noiseless and pollution free festival were conducted in different parts of the country by activists, police and civic administration. Accusing people of not remembering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Clean India Mission’, a cleaner in Nagpur city in Maharashtra, Sarita Yadav, said people should act more responsibly by cleaning off the remnants after bursting the crackers. NIA Chief visits blast site in Burdwan

Burdwan / New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): The Director General (DG) of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Sharad Kumar, on Friday (October 24) visited blast sites in Burdwan to monitor the probe. The explosions in Burdwan district in West Bengal on October 02 had left two suspected militants dead, while the city court has sent three accused in police custody till October 22. Later, two women were also arrested in connection with the blast on October 05. The involvement of militant outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba and Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami (Bangladesh-based) are being suspected in the case as a large number of watch dials, SIM cards, and other tools required to make improvised explosive devices were found in the house. Anantnag, Oct 24 (ANI): A Policeman was shot dead by unknown militants in Jammu and Kashmir. The gunmen fired at Rafiq Ahmad Mir outside his residence in Kulgam district. Mir’s family members are clueless about the murder. His body was brought to his home on Friday. Rafiq was shifted to sub-district hospital in Bijbehara town where doctors declared him brought dead. The policeman, who was posted with IRP 12 battalion and posted at Mattan area in Anantnag district, was on leave and had reached home only Thursday, officials said.
